I finally got 5 eggs out of 9 layers yesterday. 1 mommy, 1 broody, 1 not old enough, and maybe I forgot an egg from the night before. My frizzles are on strike. Little snots. 6 babies are growing like weeds. My 2 BLRW look like one will be splash and one BLR; yay! I think I have 3 boys- 2 bantam cochins and 1 of the BLRWs but eek are they cute! Waiting on my guineas...here guinea guinea guinea! 22 more days, right Amy?

Confesion: I cracked open my crawlspace door for the brids to get relief from the heat. When I let them out this morning, before I fed them, I hear all kinds of commotion around the side of the house and everyone was waiting (impaitently) for the crawl space door to be opened. Lord what have I done? Least it doesn't smell and I can spray it out...

Yes, a very long wait on Guineas to hatch but it will be here before we know it and kissing their adorable little heads!

I have 4 Runners from gofasterstripe's eggs and they have bonded with me so every time I go over to their box they run to me and I get to kiss all their heads as they stand waiting for me to pick them up. They appreciate me for now. I am taking full advantage of it, too! I think one silver, 2 blue and a black.​

The only shows I know of in SC is the bantam show in November and one in Orangeburg either in May or Dec., can't remember which time but I know that when I head down to the Columbia Guinea Pig show in one of those months when we always have them the Poultry show is going on in Orangeburg the same time and I so badly want to slip off to see it since I am so close. I don't know if anyone's interested but they have a show at the state fair in Oct. They have one for guinea pigs too I believe.

Amy, have you seen any development in your guinea eggs? I am excited for you! First time I have been able to get any follow-up on my eggs. People never let me know what happens! Oh, unless it is bad and nothing happens!

Yes, there is a "show" at the state fair but like most fairs the judges are not exactly who you want feedback from.
Very few Guinea Pigs are put out in the exhibition part at the state fair because it isn't a real show sponsored by ARBA or ACBA just as the poultry show is not sponsored by the ABA or APA.
The state fair is more for education for the public. It lets folks see different kinds of animals and breeds and maybe spark their interest to pursue it.
I would never show at a state fair and that has nothing against the people who do. I applaud anyone that takes the time to do it. My pursuits lie in a different direction. (I know you all love my opinions!

They are dark enough and my LED needs new batteries for me to see if they are developing. I will do my best to check on that but probably not until Sunday.
I was appalled by someone that just got my Mottled eggs and after 4 days of incubation they broke 2 open to see if they were developing. She wrote me and said those 2 were not developing and could they possibly not be fertilized.....
I told her that she needed to give them a lot longer and please do not open them until after day 14 if she can't see any development from candling. She emailed me yesterday, 7 days of incubation, and they had opened all of them and though they were fertilized, she said, there wasn't any development! What they hay??? Why would you do that???
I seldom candle before 10 days and most often do not candle until day 18 unless I am pushed for 'bator space. I certainly would not pay almost $40 for 8 eggs and open them all by day 7. She never answered me as to whether she candled them or not before hand. I just did not know how to answer this person. I had set 6 from the same pen 5 days before that and candled mine last night. All 6 are developing. But 2 of them were very hard for me to tell anything and may be quitters. No blood ring but not as far along as the others, which can happen.

That has been my experience too. I think peachicks and keets are better suited as clutch mates than either one with chicks. They tend to run all over the baby chicks.
