Our game hens took forever to start laying - they were 8 months old by the time we got our first egg. They were both good layers once they got started, but they do take a break when it gets really hot in the summer. Ours never have used nesting boxes. They prefer to dig holes in the ground and lay their eggs there!!

I am about to go meet Joy at Walmart. Is that exciting enough?

We chat for hours while her poor sons are absolutely bored with us. Hey, chickeneers got lots to talk about!

Definitely exciting! Nice to know Redbug and I are not the only ones who meet and stand talking about chickens for hours!

Oh, it wasn't just meeting and talking at Walmart but later Joy called me and we were both doing chores so we chatted on for about 3 hours!

We just have so much in common on so many things in our lives that it is fun and interesting to talk it all over. We start out with chicken talking, go through tons of other topics, it seems and wind up with chicken talk at the end, too. Or like last night, our phones died and cut us off!

Wow..talking chickens ...for ...hours? I don't know if I'll ever evolve to that point..I don't think I can retain that much experience/knowledge/imformation. At this age...49..all I can retain...is water!!

Hon, I am in the same boat. Staring 50 in the eye and wonder why in the world I don't lose all this weight when I sweat constantly outside. At the height of the summer I had 700 chickens and was working my tail off (or so I thought but it's still there, big as ever) and eating very little, drinking lots of water and juice, no sodas or even tea. Still, I am so fat I feel more like I am wattling around the farm like the ducks. IMO, I should be as slender as when I got married 31 years ago.

And yes, you will talk chickens for hours once you have had them a while, raised a few chicks and want more breeds.
Besides, anyone who knows me knows it doesn't matter the subject. I can yak on for a long time!

Just came back from picking a bushel of peaches and had to set the two big 1/2 bushel baskets on the steps because I also bought jars of jelly and a watermelon. Turned around to go back up the steps into the house and my baskets had been attacked by chickens!
ep.gif
They had pecked holes in several peaches in about 5 seconds!

I bought these peaches for the raffle baskets tomorrow and a friend from FL wanted me to bring her an extra half bushel. But the chickens thought I bought them all for them to eat!

It went well. I"m surprised no one heard all the angels singing when I finished my last paper!

I"m glad my next two classes are math so I don't have to write a while- sheesh! I keep wanting to get together before class, but lately I have had meetings scheduled at 5 which means I am cruising by your exit about 3:45. Maybe we can meet for lunch one Thursday about 1:30 -ish?

Amy: I get the same type of chicken rush every time that I bring anything out to the pen/coop. The chickens act as thogh I never feed them. if someone was watching the way they act they would think that I never gave my birds anythihg, allmost every morning I give them some pears ,cabbage leaves chopped up cucumber & melon or squash leftovers Not to mention making sure that they have both water and feed both inside the coop and outside in the pen .

Hmmm...mine are still young...but there seems to be more holes scratched under their coops these days. I am in no hurry...they'll make eggs when they are ready.
