well,we actualy just added a Brahma hen,a pair of Silkys and a pair of Bantys to the flock.but we plan to go to anderson jockey lot tomorow.

Not to put anyone down but the Jockey lot is not a very good place to buy birds. Often they are carriers of disease, lice, mites, internal parasites and such. If they are willing to sell them so cheap it often means that haven't put much into their care. Not to say an expensive bird is better since anyone can put a large price tag on something.
I'm not saying this very well but I just want to caution you as I have heard so many horror stories. I do wish you the best!

ok,thanks for the heads up.

Welcome to the board!

lol!that would be fine with me.
what can i say,we like our chickens:D!
when i was growing up,my grandparents had a small farm up in the mountains.it was still just like it was when my dad grew up there when i was a kid some 40 or so years later.
now that we've got our chickens,im starting to realise how much i miss that little farm.

Thanks, Amy for the input.

Just a reminder about our swap meet/gathering in Augusta on November, 5th. Let me know soon if you plan on coming. Tractor Supply has tables, but needs an estimate. I can have Lunch available for those who want it ($5-$6 per person). Also, let us know what you have to sell/trade/buy.

Thanks and I look forward to meeting you.
David

I have to say I agree with you Amy. My first chickens were from the jockey lot and while they didn't end up with too many health problems, I do believe I was lied to about their age and they are so NOT friendly. I still can't barely touch them without getting beat up in the process and I've had them almost 2 years. I guess you get what you pay for! I've since learned my lesson..and enjoy meeting all my new chicken friends in the process!

So who all is going to the Morganton show?? I'm still trying to convince DH he should go with me but I guess if he decides not to I'm going to venture on my own...or maybe try to bring my mom along

Ah, yes, I do love meeting more chicken people but you will notice I didn't say a word about them coming to me for chickens. As much as i like to sell some I try not to come on here and plug at you guys to buy my birds. Experience is the best teacher but I do try and help others with the little bit I know.

I just don't want anyone to get chickens, have really bad experiences and then feel like they got a bum deal. I want everyone to enjoy them as much as I do!

You will see me selling some pairs in the parking lot, if it isn't raining.
Can't miss my truck as I have the big West Knoll Farm sign on the back window and I will be wearing my farm shirt. Probably DH will be wearing one, as well.
I don't have much to take to sell but it just depends on the weather. If it is nice I will take chicks and adults, if it is too chilly I will just take adults. If it is raining, I am not going. Not worth hauling my chickens up there in dampness and being miserable. They do have an area inside where sellers can set up but I don't want to get them out in the wind and rain, even with tarps.
