in just a few days, they've changed so much! looks like your prediction for this little guy was true! showing some kind of barring! So weird, wonder where he got this color from? I have no barred birds.

That's the thing, when you see chicks they can only express certain genetics and knowing what those are can help a lot in predicting what they will start looking like. A lot of birds do not show what they are carrying in genetics but when bred to something else they will express it on their kids.
I tag a lot of my chicks when they hatch to make sure I know who the parents are but a lot of times I do not even have to look at teh leg bands to know who they are out of. Good breeding shows in phenotype and genotype but so does color.

Watch that chick! It is going to astound you in the next few weeks! You are going to be amazed at what beauty this little fella will be! And yes, it is a roo.

Seven, we had fowlpox here this year and from what I have researched once they have it they will not get it again. Plus, from what I read they will not be carriers. The biggest thing is you should not sell birds that have active pox as it is spread by mosquito bites mainly and you will spread it to other flocks. Unless your pox out-break turns to wet pox it is only an aggravation. I do not think my birds even knew they had it. My situation was interesting as only my Polish rooster got it, so I had some strange strain here that did not seem to effect the other birds--hopefully that does not change! Mine are pretty much over the issue now, but it did last about 4 or 5 weeks. I would not cull your birds due to pox unless you need to get rid of them and do not want to hold them until they are over the sores.

Good luck with your birds--I am really sorry to hear you got fowlpox in your birds as I know what a pain it was here.

The mother is an OEGB, mixed color. The father is is either a silver sebright or wcb polish. So far, two of the chicks are barred, one is pure white, one is black with brown highlights, and one is white with grey markings, much like the mother. Just a party mix

idk who is contributing the lovely barring though

Well, I couldn't figure out why no one had been talking on this thread as I had not seen any responses--then I looked today and found I had some how unsubscribed to the thread!

We have been very busy here with DH putting on the porch. An exciting thing though happened to me yesterday--I was given yards of camo netting!! I am going to put it over my hog pen turned guinea/peafowl pen!! I hope the the bird do not fly up and get caught in it. I would thing it will not be any worse then wire as it is 1" netting with that rubber camo loops hooked on to it. DH is going to help me put up some cables to hold the netting up and we are going to try to get it as tight as possible. I was also given 4 hunting blinds but we have not picked them up yet. They are little fiberglass blinds. Has anyone else ever used them for little chicken houses? I think they will be great but DH is not liking the idea.

Heidi, I swear sometimes our computers do things by themselves. I have had stuff like that to happen, too.
It is a head scratcher, for sure.

I gotta head out and help pull the pump out of the well and see if we can fix whatever is giving us fits about it. I wish I had hired someone to fix it last spring but DH kept saying he could do it. I am tired of waiting so now I am raising Cain and anything else to get him up and going.
