I'm not too far from you. We're in Greenwood County. Welcome to the board!

Isn't today gorgeous! I'm just loving this weather. Makes summer almost seem like a horrible dream.

Well I've now witnessed a hawk in action...luckily it didn't succeed. Most of the time my chickens stay in their coop but usually when I know I'll be home most of the day I'll let them out to free range. I guess I can't do that anymore. I have 2 in a tractor and let them out first. By the time I got down to the other coop I heard an awful squawk from my Black Australorp and when I turned around saw a hawk trying to carry her off. She got herself free somehow and run under a cedar tree for safety. Then I had to round them all up and try to get them back in the coop (easier said than done). I've gotten them all in except one hen..and she's hiding under some brush behind the coop so I hope she'll be ok. It has me very scared now...guess I'll have to build those runs quicker than I thought

Hey Amy...I am actually pretty good with well repair! What is your problem?

Well, it doesn't want to build pressure. It will give us water for an hour or so and then quit. If we go flip the breaker off for it and wait about 30-60 seconds then flip it back on the water will come back on. It loves to wait til I am in the middle of washing my hair to go off!

Sometimes it will stay on all day without any problem but other times it just quits. Sometimes we can just leave it alone and eventually it will come back on by itself but our pump is running constantly that way so we just turn the breaker off when not using the water.
Sounds like a pain, I know but life could be much worse. DH knows how to fix stuff, he just won't get around to doing it. That is why I no longer make the attempt at cooking or cleaning up after him. I figure this is a fair trade.

I know how you feel...I've had deaths though... A hawk killed my beloved silkie rooster last year, and I've had plenty of other, smaller bantams carried off too...their squawk is heart wrenching

Yesterday I saw a huge red tailed hawk flying over the trees at the back of my property. Jolie was sound asleep and the roosters must have been, too. No one was alarming at all. No Guineas, nothing! So I called out my "Whoop, whoop." and boy, did the farm yard come alive. Birds scrambled every where to safety as roosters started alarming and Jolie came out of the bushes barking and looking around.

Sometimes we have to do all the work! Geez!

Glad your girl is okay!

Hope you get the pump fixed Amy - having water problems is a big PAIN! We have a well too. I'm laughing at your logic on the "trade-off" with your husband.

As you know I do the same thing. This now has my husband a bit worried as he's scheduled for surgery Monday and I've assured him that I will take the same good care of him as he always has me. And this is the man that left me home alone while I was in labor because he didn't believe it was time for the baby yet. Almost had to drive myself to the hospital.

They're doing great Heidi! Thanks for asking. I only had 2 eggs that didn't pip and 1 that pipped but didn't hatch. And I've lost one little keet that somehow managed to get stuck between the drinker and the brooder wall. They do seem to find trouble. But the others are doing great and I will try to get a picture of them again soon. They are beautiful colors, some I didn't have so I am thrilled. Just can't wait to see for sure what they are.

My SDW's are starting to lay again and I'm hoping the white OE will start too so I can send you both. If the whites don't lay soon, I will send you the SDW eggs now and the whites later. I really want to get some to you before cold weather sets in for good.
