OK Im so mad. Had eggs shipped. They were suppose to be here Monday but guess what? They are not here!!! Tired tracking them and it showed the lady shipped them and that is it. Called the PO and they couldnt find out any more information than I could.

Advice please! I was just out in my nursery coop (which is less than one month old and brand new) and playing with a white silkie. Guess what? It has mites. How did mites get in there? I haven't put any older birds in there. Just babies. Can you use Ivermectin on chicks? I'm thinking no. Do I need to dust every single chick with Sevin? Dust the coop? I'm sure I'll have to take them out. They are little (10 days and up). Any thoughts? I did not have this on my list of things to do today!

Put in a little Sevin. Add a lot of sand. I would probably add a big cup of diatomaceous earth. Dampen the mix if it is too dusty for your taste. Grab each baby and sprinkle the mix over their back and rub a bit around the hind parts too. Any old cardboard box or old cat litter box will work.

I sold eggs on auction, shipped them out PRIORITY on Wed. and they went to the right town but then were scanned every day (even on Sunday) and still did not get to her until the next Wed! She tracked them and when they had not arrived on Monday she let me know. She had been to the PO on Sat. demanding to know where they were but they did not help her. She told them and gave them the tracking number that the package showed to be there in the PO but they could not find it. They scanned it in every day but could not find it! She has set the eggs and we hope they are okay but the PO is really getting crazy.

I also shipped out eggs last week, owners request, via Express Mail. She sent me the money Express mail, paid for the eggs and paid for shipping back Express mail. It wound up costing her over $100 (she really wanted those eggs!) and she still did not get them for 4 days! She is filing a complaint but we all know how that goes.

I know Priority does not really guarantee them to get there even if they say it does. Express mail is guaranteed over night to certain towns but even when they get there they get lost in the mess they have. When you question them they point out that fine print.

I am so blind that all I see is movement and I treat them. I do not use shavings so my little ones are always fine and I keep them in plastic brooders with feed bags that have been sprayed down with Oxine or Kleen Green (that bottle goes a long way!). Mine do get them once feathered out and on shavings or they have flown down to the floor. That room needs to be cleaned out again but finding the time has been hard.
Yes, I could be doing it right now but I am printing out labels to ship out more eggs and meal worms. My old printer takes a while so I am eating a bite a breakfast, too. Hard to type when my fingers stick to the keys because of the syrup from waffles. (You see why I am so fat??

Dag gone! You haven't been here in many months and yet it is like you know my brooder room.
I have a cardboard box on the floor for all my escapees that refuse to live in a brooder or are not able to live outside in a grow up pen. It has some dirt/sand, DE and a touch of Sevin dust in it. They jump in that box and make a nice dust cloud. I will try to get a photo of it. As one is playing in it the others come jump on the edge and wait their turn or just watch.

How would chicks get lice? And wouldn't you treat them both the same way?

Joy, you are so RIGHT!!! I just checked the chicks in the house and they have mites. They are just a few days old. And yes... they are on pine shavings from TSC. I'm so stinking mad.

Poor little chicks. Never occured to me to check the babies for mites.
