Amy I think it was the gaint cochin. Oh My Gosh what a beautiful boy. My husband would kill me though because he is now building me a nice big silkie coop. Some many chickens, so little time to build coops.

Good to see your son is so interested!! I had a Polish hen that loved the silkie roo and no matter what I did she found her way over to him. I didn't collect her eggs since they were 'mutts' and she went broody and hatched out 6 chicks with the biggest silkiest crests ever. I hated selling them I wanted to see what they grew up to look like but I can't keep everything.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who has chicks at the moment. You could try the website- mypetchicken.com they still have some orpington chicks available and you can order some. The minimum number is 3 so you can order 6 no problem

You can cut and paste that in your browser - I am not sure how to get a link to work here. Aside from that, I would suggest checking Craigslist in the farm and garden section, occasionally you will see chickens for sale. Good Luck! Let us know what you find or don't find. If nothing else, you can buy a styrofoam incubator pretty cheap and hatch your own!

I set up our chicken tract for winter with some cardboard and rough cut sawdust. We have them in a 2 level tracotr, and they were getting alot of wind last weekend. Well, anyway, the chickens proceeded to eat the sawdust...it is almost gone now, with what the blew onto the ground with their wings. Needless to say, they barely touched their food the first 2 days of sawdust. This can't be healthy for them...eating sawdust. (?)

I have one of his sons. Midas and he is just gorgeous, trying to remember when i got hij from Amy I want to say end of may early june, he is maturing really nice. he hasnt learned how to treat his ladies good yet. hopefully that behavior will come as he gets older. hes still so young in that respect.. hes going to be fantastic at a year old. im sure..

if amy has more this coming year.. get one of the boys, you wont be sorry.. hardest thing i have is finding girls for him I was able to get a white and a blue from Susanne , neither of them are laying hopefully they will start back up this spring and Ill get some pullets , hes been breeding them but they aren't laying.. I have Columbians in with him.. he likes those girls too.. not sure what they will look like but those girls arnt laying either.. ahhh this molt light winter deal is soo frustrating..
