how odd.. yeah no nutritional value, wonder why they ate it?

I guess they think it looks like feed. I had them out of the tractor to hose it down and let the sun dry it. Then, I put cardboard on the top floor, over the wire floor. I parafinned the cardboard...hoping it would last longer. Set the tracotr all back up, spread the sawdust..and let them back in. The first one upstairs, thought the floor was covered with feed. The other 6, were spooked by not being able to see up. Silly chickens. Well, at least the roo is crowing now. He is not quite 6 months old yet.

I have read this a few times and still laugh until I cry every single time!!! It is freakin hysterical and I'd love to meet the person who actually did this. Of course I'm pulling for the deer the whole time I'm reading. Thanks for sharing

Yes! And his sons look a lot like him, too! I sold those out back in August. Everyone thought they were so gorgeous. I probably should hatch out more but will probably wait til spring. I have sold hatching eggs from them though. People really love those chicks. The pullets are as gorgeous as the roos.

This is the one you mean, isn't it?

Amy, if you ran a roo like that with blue and black hens what would you get? Would all chicks have barring? He is beautiful!

I keep records so I can go back and check. Not to mention, the IRS frowns on bad record keeping.

Make sure when you do hatch from Midas that you show us lots of pix!! I haven't kept anything from Bo. I live vicariously through others that have his kids.

Is everyone still not getting eggs? My girls have doubled what they were giving me a few weeks ago and I have a bunch of pullets that are laying now. Thank goodness since sales have gone mad and probably will til after Christmas. All that holiday baking, you know.

Yes, Bo throws the barring gene with all his offspring so far. I did cross him with black and blue Cochin hens. I didn't care for the black but someone bought the chicks and the black hens went to the NC coast with Posey, a fellow BYCer. The blue produced pretty blue barred chicks and I sold all those chicks with 2 of the mama hens and the other blue hen also went with Posey.

I prefer the gold. It looks like crele on Bo but his kids came out like a barred bird. I want to try white next time.

Well, I spent a productive morning shoveling out the Silkie/Cochin shed and refilling with fresh shavings (twice a year job) and finally built those nest boxes I have put off for 3 years now. Whew! Tired but happy it is done.

Now on to other jobs that need doing!

Looks great! Sure wish I could get all my "chicken jobs" done that have been steadily building up. Maybe when I'm on a break from school we'll get some of it accomplished...although that will be in december when it's really cold

out of the 6 I got from Susanne i have 1 Ee that is laying. my barred holland is so reliable shes everyday and my white leghorn, and 2 of the Br.. no one else.. sookie and golden the 2 girls I got from you are aporx 29 weeks old this week.. and not a single egg. my dark brahmas which I expected to be late bloomers are both doing some serious thinking about it.. they each will go in the box and play at making a nest and sit in there an hr or so then they get out and who ever was waiting gets in.. hahah.. so silly. every9one is sooooo silky smooth and glossy I know their healthy they are just taking their own sweet time I guess.. i wish they would start puling their weight though.. i keep having little talk's with them but just like kids in one ear and out the other.. hahah.

Good for you! I have been working on getting my netting up on the "compound". All of this for 2 peachicks. I think I see more peacocks in my future....

I did move the BBRed trio to a clean hatch from their all wire hanging cage. They look so happy in a bigger space. I also gave them a big pan of sand so they could dust and they love it!!

So much still to do!
