I'm so sorry, Pink. He didn't have any spurs that I could tell so I don't think he was old. I just think he had other problems going on. I know you will miss the pretty boy.

That was funny! He had not ever jumped at anyone else before but I think he hit puberty the day you were here!

And talking about Bo reminds me of how I spent yesterday afternoon.
I removed spurs from all my older fellas that were in breeding pens. At 2 years old those guys have some long ones and when Jackie was here Sunday showing her MIL around we found poor Fred hanging by one of his so I figured it was time again to take off spurs. It leaves a red nub and next spring they will be viscous again but it only takes a minute to twist them off.
Oh the joys of poultry farming!

Sorry! Poor guy. My layers are not laying either. I've sold most of them but still have about 14 or so. I'm getting one egg a day. And this is from proven layers. Those you got from me were laying. What's with these girls!!??

I don't think I made it on here yesterday! Between getting my feed delivery from Roger's Feed (Thanks, Joy! I told them you referred us.) to demiting the chicks and the chick coops, it was a busy day.

Guess what? We listed our house in town two weeks ago. Our lake house has been on the market since February and we've had a few showings but nothing serious. We can't get the financing to build at the farm until we sell a house. So, even though I LOVE my beautiful house, we decided to put it on the market. It's in the most expensive neighborhood in town and with the economy the way it is, we figured it might be a few years before we sell. There are 15 other houses for sale in our neighborhood. Well.... we got an offer this morning! After two weeks! It's a neurosurgeon that is moving to town to work at Self Memorial. The only hiccup is they want approval from the Architectural Committee to put in a pool. I don't know if that's a problem or not. We back up to one of the ponds but there's plenty of space. Hoping, hoping, hoping they say YES! They want to close 12/9. I know we can come to an agreement on money. We're not that far apart.

I could be living at the farm in my new house this Spring! We have everything ready to go and since we're doing a modular home, our builder said four months from start to finish. Looks like Christmas in the Singlewide! I think God knows how much this farm means to me and how peaceful it makes me. Think good thoughts, y'all!

Oh that is wonderful news! Good thoughts coming your way. You're very welcome on the Rogers feed info. Aren't they the nicest people? I hope you like the food. My hens are not laying well either. I have some young ones that have started but my americanas have quit completely. I know they're due a rest but I need some eggs. I'm thinking of adding a few hours of light to their schedule to see what happens. I've never used artificial light on them before. I know It's just a matter of time, I'm just not good at the patience thing.

Hmmmmm....wonder why mine have picked up again? They didn't lay well through August or Sept but now I am getting at least 3 dz from my old free range flock and my young ladies are giving me more than 2 dz a day. My breeding pens are laying fairly well again.
I got 4 eggs from my BLRW pen yesterday. I had a hard time putting them in the eating egg mix but I did it. Maybe not today though..... Who wouldn't want more of these beauties?
