So is that what he is? I wasn't sure. I adopted him along with one guinea hen from a friend who lost the rest of her birds to dogs. He's definitely the king of the coop! Even the guineas don't mess with him much. But the red hens don't let him get away with much. They basically just tolerate him and keep him in line. I hand raised the hens and I can pick them up & pet them, but Skreech is still a bit leery of being handled. I'd like to trim his legs feathers, they are so big and stick way out that I'm afraid he's going to trip over them sometimes!

Yep, he's a mille fleur d'uccle. They are wonderful birds, and the roosters are friendly and fun to have around.

Watch trimming the feathers on your d'Uccles feet as they have blood feathers and they will bleed pretty bad. Best to just leave them alone from what I have read.

Thank you but DH is already beating the bushes for another job and was with a temp agency anyhow so maybe he will get right back on that horse!
Gotta do what you got to do! That deer was sent from Heaven so I tried to do my best. My kitchen is a disaster this morning and will take me all day to get right again but I have it bagged and tagged! My freezer is slam full! DH had so many ideas on how he wants to cook it and I was just wore out from cutting it all up and trying to get it soaked and then bagged along with the chicken chores.

Doesn't everyone wax their ducks????

Actually we do pluck our ducks after dipping the carcass in warm soapy water. Then there will be some feathers, like pin feathers, that are hard to get off so I roll the carcass in warm wax and let it cool then rub the wax off and viola! The feathers come right off with the wax. Easy peasy. But given that we can't find the wax then we will try duct tape. We laughed over that idea, too so I had to share!

Trying to catch up with all the posts but probably never will--so much to do around here.

Amy, I am sorry about the DH's job. Hope he finds something real soon! Especially with Christmas coming! Your are in my prayers on that one. Good job with the deer meat--my hubby has been trying to get one here but they are feeding at night(full moon) and it just is not happening.

Moonchild, very nice flock! Wish I could get my bunch to stand still long enough for some pics.

Oh and Susanne, that was a wonderful picture! Wish we had that view!

We have had a busy weekend working on the porch that has turned into a big project. I will take picture when it is done.

I also had my last marans hatch and out of 24 eggs only got 7 chicks but they look pretty healthy and active-- and look much better than the last bunch.

Got some tarps on some pens and have been moving birds around.

DeeAnn I will have to take pictures of the d'Uccles in their new pen. I have not been leaving them in at night as they seem kind of lost in the big thing and now sure what to do when it starts getting dark but they love digging and flying!!

So much to do so little time to do it in....

He is a very nice fella! His coloring is beautiful and those foot feathers are just fine for him to walk with. He is used to them and bred from many generations carrying those lovely footies. It is unusual for a d'Uccle not to like to be handled but I am sure there are bloodlines that were not bred for such handling and he could be one of them. I think he is fantastic and thank you for sharing such lovely photos!

Hey guys! Today is day 21 and I have a pip!!! YAH!

And I'm also not allowed to buy chickens online anymore. I begged all morning yesterday and finally got an ok to get this baby bunny I saw at Pet Lovers Warehouse in Columbia. We had to drive 35 minutes to get it. But I just LOVE him. I named him Panda. He's a lionhead with gray tinged spots. Sooo...if anyone close to Sumter has a rabbit hutch and/or one of those indoor cages with the plastic bottom and wired top I might be interested.

I think my bunny is only about 7 weeks old. It's just slightly larger than my hand and my hands are small!

I want to post all over facebook photos, but everyone thinks I'm crazy having chickens and such as it is. My relatives will give me so much grief about my new bunny!
