I have been thinking there may be a blackmarket (no pun intended) for dressed out silkie birds around here ( the Fugi folks?!?)

Maybe if I sneak it in on him one evening. When cooked the meat is just dark? Not black? How about the bones?

Pigmentation is a skin trait. People of African descent have red muscle tissue and white bones. Likewise for silkies (relative to normal chickens).

But with silkies - they have dark slate/gray/blackish skin, muscle (meat), and bones.

Nope, I sold all the roos already. They went at the August sale and I have not set any more eggs. I have so many new girls laying in their pen right now I do not know which ones are the Cochin's eggs so I do not set any. I need to move all the new layers out but they are happy in there for now. I have Brahmas, sex links, SLWs and some Partridge Rocks laying now and all look a lot alike. The Java in there has already gone broody after laying only about 10 eggs. I won't get more of that breed.

Give her an IOU and I will hatch some in another month or so when I get everyone moved to the free range flock. Though these girls do go out in the back paddock during the day to feed so they may just find their way back into this pen to lay, too. It may take me a while to convince them to lay in the free range coop so I will know I am collecting the correct breed of eggs. Buffy Ann is still laying pretty good but she always has until she goes broody around April.

seams strange asking for Roos hahha.. boy have I learned that I need back up roosters.. im getting spring fever allready.. Im excited about spring chicks and green trees again.. thats what I miss most I think in winter.. I miss the green trees and grasses..

thanks Pink

Easley/Greenville area.

I will check with DH in the morning see if he has any more black sex links for sale. That is all we have available now. Amy, Joy or someone may have something else.

You could also check the Facebook page for the Chicken Swap of SC or something like that.
