Hey Susanne...the last 2 days I have put the evil EE(my fav) in a crate for the day after she lays her egg and our boy immediatly comes down from roost to hang with the wheaton gals and today I caught him in the middle of them having a 3way dust bath!!!

Also cross fingers everyone that my goat deal pulls through...I am second in line...hoping its a story so she can check me out(which I welcome) before she agrees I can have them!! I have been wanting a couple and finally talked DH into some not long ago but my dog(RIP) wasnt good with goats either.Poor guy was the best guardian and I dont think he would have killed a goat but he was way to intent on Moms to risk it! He was put into farm life late but was starting to respect the chickens area and was great with the horse! I figure now is a good time so when I get my LGD it can be trained with all types of animals!!

If it doesn't work out, remember that I have lavender and blue muscovy ducks too. I'd be glad to sell some hatching eggs now or ducklings in the spring.

I want some! Probably ducklings. Let me know when you have them!

That is called a snood and it's so funny to watch as it changes based on their emotions. When the Tom is showing off his snood will hang way down below his chin, his face changes color too. Sometimes his face is red, sometimes blue and sometimes purple. The snood shrinks up when he's focused on eating and it almost disappears. Turkeys have been an educational experience for us. I really like them, I just hope they stay friendly. My friend had a pet Tom Turkey and when spring arrived he got really aggressive with her. He knocked her on the ground and was flogging her, her husband had to move the bird off of her. They can get really heavy, my Tom weighs at least 50 pounds. I'll have to get a video of him walking around, it's hilarious - they waddle like ducks.

Joy, what kind of turkey is it? I guess if one gets mean, it can always get the shotgun treatment! And then the oven treatment.

I really want some turkeys but I don't want to wait until June. I'm a fairly impatient person which is why this house process is killing me! Waiting on an appraisal from another bank. AgSouth is not going to work out. They wanted to use all of our land for a comp. There's not a lot of tracts with a house that have sold around here in the last year. So no comps. We went with a local bank and they are going to carve out 7-10 acres and the house. We should know something tomorrow or early next week. I'm still thinking there are not a lot of comps. It has to be within 10 miles and sold in the last year. It really stinks because we're approved for the mortgage, we have a great downpayment, and we can't get a mortgage because of comps.

It's so frustrating! If this one falls through, I'm not sure what we'll do. Time to get creative! On a positive note, we did rent our lake house until at least March 1 to a man here in town with a new company. Maybe he'll love it and buy it! He's paying our mortgage though so that's nice.

My turkeys are bronze and they are sweethearts. My friends mean turkey was white, maybe Royal Palm? He was smaller than my Tom is but I only saw him once and I wasn't interested in turkeys at that time so I didn't really pay attention - other than to stay out of his way. Turkeys don't lay eggs til spring. I can't wait to get eggs and hatch some poults myself this year. FUN

Rufus seemed afraid of loud noises but that was just the first few days. I think it was all part of the anxiety of the move. He seems fine now. Two of them are in pastures with 48' fencing. Rufus is just roaming around on his own. He doesn't go far. He knows this area of the farm is "home". If he goes after something (and he did almost go to the front of the farm yesterday which is about 1/4 mile away), he comes right back. Keeper has gotten under the pasture fencing a few times but now she stays put. I really think once they learn where they are supposed to be, they stay. Of course, mine are adults and have been trained well. They definitely know "bad dog" and respond to it. I wish we had gotten these last year. They do bark a lot during the night but we just assume there's stuff to bark at. We don't really have any neighbors so it's not a big deal for us. I love them and my husband has been telling everyone how impressed he is with this breed (and he's a lab lover!).

I knew you would love them once you got one! I am so glad you went with adults that are already trained! Pups are very hard to start with and take a bit of training and patience. The good thing is once you have a well trained one it is a good idea to get a youngster so the old dog can train the young one. A big mistake is making them house dogs. Yours sound very well trained and you now know the benefit of having them! It is just amazing to have that weight lifted from your shoulders when you get a great guard dog like that.

Here are my fearless farm dogs!

That is wonderful--I have never seen lavenders but I bet they are beautiful! My family raised Muscovy's when I was little but still remember them and how much I love one of them that was named Daisy. Ours were black and white, which I guess is a standard color. I will keep my fingers crossed for you Amy that it works out and you get your lavender Muscovy!! Just remember we will all expect pictures!

She has tried to find a home for them for a while. I want them so much since I haven't been able to find any more local. Here is the link.
