Forgive me if this has already been discussed as I haven't read far enough. Just wiating for the glue to dry on the shipping box so I thought I could tap this out.
Some folks use Ivermectin straight from the bottle that they use on horses and cattle. If measured out correctly this can be applied to the dog as a safe heart worm prevention. However, it has killed a lot of dogs that were given this treatment that did have heart worms because they were not tested before hand and known to be infected. It has to be given differently when they are heart worm positive.
I have always given mine commercial products because that was easier and the price is always right for me.
Here I can only say what we do for our dogs with Ivermectin - DH has been using it for years on his hunting dogs etc etc.. We use it on our outside dogs......as a wormer, to prevent ticks & fleas, etc....We use the injectible I believe...but would have to check with DH..... IDK the dosage either.
Over the years not all of our dogs have been tested. But what has been tested, none that we treat with ivermectin has tested positive for heartworms.
