Joy Where is the store that sells guinea meat?
I have been threatening to kill one of my largest ones that picks on some of my chickens and the other guineas. I would like to taste the meat before I go to the trouble of processing him. If it ain't good, he may just die of old age.

I really like the new site. It's just something new to get used to. Y'all remember when the new-fangled internet just started up? ;)

JAckie I like the new site also. I've worked in IT before and now. And Amy some how I subscribed to you so I follow you every where you go on the new BYC. Didn't mean too.

I'm with you, Jackie. I keep playing with it a little and finding more and more on here. I've actually gotten to where I don't even notice the white column on the right side anymore. I probably have the advantage that I haven't been on here for years, like some of you, and that I wasn't use to the auction feature, which seems to have been the biggest change. My only disappointment is that I still can't post new pictures from my iPad, but that will hopefully happen at some point in the future. In the meantime, I'll just use my laptop for that.

We officially have SEVEN hens-a-laying!!! We suspected that Maranda, our one hold-out had finally laid her first egg on Saturday, but were not completely sure. This morning, when Lou Ann left to come to work, Maranda was in the nest box, with Lacey, one of the SLW's. Two of the Buffs were in another box, and a third Buff (Nina) was trying to get in. Lou said it looked as if she was just about to just shoot the egg into the box when she closed the door. Four boxes, seven pullets, and they want to use two of them-at the same time!!! I went by at lunch and gathered five eggs. Lou Ann found a green one later. That means one of the Buff's didn't lay or Nina missed and there is an egg somewhere else. Hmmmm. Overall, a good day in the chicken coop!

That made me laugh Mary! It's Live Oak Farm Store in Roebuck/Woodruff. Probably too far for you. I've never had guinea meat but everyone that I know who's eaten guinea really liked it. I've been told it's dark meat so it's not as dry as chicken but not greasy as duck. I'll look tomorrow and see if they have any in stock.

I have to share this story with you. My neighbor's son just posted a picture on facebook of the THIRD coyote he had shot from his bedroom window. They live up the street from Lou Ann (and the chickens) and around the corner from me. Lou Ann immediately asked if it was the window at their house and was told yes. It seems that his dad set up a sensor in the field area behind the house. The coyote or fox (he has also gotten two fox) sets off the sensor, which then sets off an alarm and wakes up Brad. He gets up, opens the window and shoots the coyote or fox. Pretty amazing. I'm glad the chickens are locked up at night! Lou Ann is now going to be sure her cats are staying locked up, too. I'm even thinking of keeping the doggie door blocked so my dachshund can't get out.
This isn't that rural of an area. It's really more of a neighborhood, they just have a field area behind them where they had bought some extra land. So crazy!
