Sorry, catching up now......

Yes, you can lovingly say anything to me. I am not easily offended. But calling me a smartie pants is a compliment! I seldom feel very smart!

I just noticed the markings and having had many breeds and researched a good bit of what I do breed then I feel it may work with other breeds, too. DH had wanted Dorkings at one time but they are difficult to find and I was not too interested in them. He just likes roosters because they are so pretty. I am more about eggs and meat.

Your babies are quite adorable and you did a terrific job hatching them even with that spike.

Anyhow, Leah is 17 today, still no permit and doesn't seem all that inclined to get her permit or license. She can drive and does drive but not out on the public roads much. I have offered numerous times to take her for her permit but she says she will get around to it one day.
In a way I like that and in a way I don't. I started driving when I was 12 when my older sister taught me and had my permit at 16 and license soon after. I was gung ho on getting out and about and Daddy always had extra cars so I always had a ride. But Leah must see it differently. She has friends that pick her up to go out and a boyfriend that drives her around. I guess she is happy with that.
Oh, and the fact that she would have to wear her glasses if she drove! I loved being able to see and always wore my glasses. She never wears hers.

We took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend to try and work with the dogs. This is a pic of my sweet Georgia "working", well sort of. If only I could get her to do this without being tied in the yard. I'm still hopeful that eventually she will learn that the chickens are her job, not her toys. I am learning also - it's obvious that they don't learn when they are together. They compete, they play but neither of them do what I want them to do. When we seperate them they cry, whine, bark and Georgia goes to great lengths to try and get back where Dixie is. If she can see Dixie it is better but if she cannot see her sister then she goes a little crazy. She has climbed over the 6' fence while chained in the temporary chicken yard. I'm worried she will hurt herself. Will they ever learn or am I kidding myself? They have both killed chickens and they're almost 2 years old. I've been told that Pyrs don't mature until 3 years but I've also been told that once they kill a chicken they're a lost cause. They have come a long way so I'll hold out hope.

Still catching up....forgive me.

Even once they learn not to kill chickens they will still not do well unless fenced in. Pyrs are wanderers by nature and unless fenced in they will not stay on your property. Jolie is the worse thing to wander off if the gates are open or she finds a hole in the fence. I have been told they inspect the fences but I didn't realize it was so they could get out! I thought they made the rounds to mark their territory against predators. How are these good LGDs when they want to go exploring? DH says it is because once they mark where their flock is they are constantly widening their area to guard, especially if they are bored. I really have no idea since everything I read says something different.

I fear even once yours are not getting your chickens they will not stay close to the birds or your yard.
