Awwww, Jackie loved those d'Anvers. I hate that she is giving them up but if she is coming here tomorrow I suppose she needs to make room. If you don't get them then Kris may see them and start wanting them for her project......

How did I miss the D'anvers needing a home ??? Oh well, glad they are going to a nice person who also wanted them. Sorry Jackie decided to part with them. Let me know what you think about them once you get them home.

The best way I know is to look at their crests. The hens will have a round crest and the roos will be oval shaped. It's pretty accurate but sometimes hard to tell which is which if you don't have one of each.

Joy that is right!! The females will have a puffy front and round if you look down on them... The males will have a slanted to back crest from side view and oval from the top. But this is only good if the chick is less than a week old. Then you have to wait til the head feathers come in....From the Picture Patsy I would say 'Roo'....But hey Let's wait and see!!!!! guessing keeps us on our feet!!!!

I LOVE all your babies!!!! I'm sorry that some are no longer with you. They are ALL Beautiful!!!!!

I always enjoy seeing everybody's photos and all these pictures of the beautiful D'Uccle's made me want to share some of my babies. They are still one of my most favorite breeds.
Mille Fleur D'Uccle chicks in the brooder

This was my special friend "Fred" who was taken by the stupid coyotes.

Two of my Millie roosters. They are so nice, see the one in back is taking care of the babies

Percy Peacock in all of his glory - I miss him everyday.

Who can resist the cute polish crested chicks?

And this is my "Blue", my original giant blue cochin. He was so patient and had to wait 2 years to have a flock of his own. I'm so thankful to have several generations of his babies to continue with. Rest in Peace my sweet "Big Blue".

Thanks for letting me share, I hope I didn't overwhelm you all with too many pictures. I had to restrain myself, I have a few thousand to choose from.

So much to catch up on after being off of here for a couple of days! Lou Ann and I went to visit Susanne on Thursday and decided what our next chickens will be. Now, we plan to start adding to the run to have a separate space and hopefully get them in the next month or so. It will be nice not to be starting with chicks in June this year.
Our visit was great and the farm is so nice. The guineas were quite comical, as guineas can be.Even better-the weather cooperated and we had sunshine and perfect temperatures.
We let our girls outside for some free range time yesterday, so they were content pullets. They have each laid an egg for the last three days. That's 21 eggs in 3 days! They deserved some free range time!
The hubs just decided we are going for some Fresh Hot Now Krispy Kreme. I'll check back in later.

I can usually tell when they're first hatched. After that it's hard to tell until they're about 8+ weeks old. At that time the girls have very neat, round crests and the boys crests are starting to look a bit messy with longer feathers. Either way, it's still hard to tell if you don't have both boys and girls to compare.
