Today, we were sitting out in the run with the chickens when I see a hawk land in a tree 10 ft away. The cockeral sitting on my husband's lap cranes his neck and started to growl. All the others ran in the coop but the growler just sat with my husband and continued the growl until the hawk left. I had no idea chickens growled. Very funny to watch.

On another note: A friend in our homeschool group is looking to add a couple chicks to their flock. In the past they have always gotten spent hens from friends but after seeing my babies they would like to start with chicks. Anyone expecting chicks in the next couple months that wouldn't mind invasion of the homeschoolers? We would love to come as a group and visit a farm and let some pick out chicks. This is for 6-8th graders.

MORE BABY PICS!! LOL!! I LOVE THESE LITTLE KIDS!!

That little girl is coloring up so cute and that little boy is a camera ham, I do believe!

Okay, I have had it with this wind! We have had to secure the tops to 2 tractors and a coop in the past hour!

One gust came along as we were running more 2" screws through a top that had it's frame....yes, FRAME ripped off of it with the roof! It had just snapped the screws off in the wood where it was attached!!! The roof to one of the duck coops was ripped totally off, again leaving half of the screws imbedded in the wood!
These are my small tractors, not the M*A*S*H units, which have some loose PVC roofing but nothing major.
Nope, what got ripped apart my my tractors that I built but not because I didn't have enough screws to hold them on! This wind just grabbed it and ripped screws and wood all to pieces!

I have moved several tractored birds into the cages in my brooder coop, much to the displeasure of the Guineas that sleep there at night.
It is 26 degrees here with the wind reaching gusts of up to 70 mph! There is ice on all the waterers and I fear I will lose some birds tonight due to the wind and cold.
I am exhausted. It is only Feb. Please Lord, tell me this is the worst of it!

Yay! Oh, they are so precious. I love the little girl's face and ears, and that little snowflake on her brother's forehead. So sweet when they're tiny like that and the bottoms of their hooves are all soft and cushiony. And then they get solid and sharp and start stomping on you... :) Thanks for posting more pics and for friending me on fb too.

You are right Nikki! That's exactly what I was thinking. My birthday is March 7th and these eggs will hatch very close to that. I'm so excited! Thanks again

But thank you all for the nice birthday wishes, that really means alot. Consider yourself early.

Heidi, my birthday is March 7th. I've confused everybody with my comment. I don't understand why ya'll can't follow my blond mind.

Nikki gave me some silkie eggs that will hatch the week of my birthday and it was a surprise so it's like an early birthday present. By the way, my silver duckwings are laying again. Just in case you've changed your mind.

I wish but my hubby is setting here with me and says I have not changed my mind...

I do thank you for the offer though but I only have so many pens right now so I need to wait. I am still working on a bigger pen for my black OEGBs. I have great ideas!

OK, Amy, this really is getting crazy! Norman died a few years ago, but Dorothy still lives there and still owns at least one trailer park that I know of.

I'm starting to wonder if we compared stories long enough if we might not discover we're third cousins or something! :p

Sorry about your tractors and coop. I hope you don't lose birds, but it really is frigid out there. Hope they'll all huddle up and keep warm.

I'd love to help u out.

I'm with you about this stupid wind Amy. My farm sign blew away, the tin roof blew off one coop, I've lost the rubbermaid trash can lid to my feed barrel. I'll post a list tomorrow of all the missing property, it might show up in one of your yards. Hang on everybody, I think we have a few more days of this.

I hope all is well with Susanne...I notice she hasn't posted in quite a few days??

Susanne posted earlier today on FB that they have closed on their construction loan and will have their house done by Memorial Day. I suspect that today, they are trying to not blow away. The wind is fierce on that farm!
