Debra brought me some last year that had detached air cells and I circlesd all of them and set them normally. They all developed and hatched but they were not shipped eggs. I have no idea why those had detached air cells but so many had been exploding in her bator that I checked before I set them. They turned the entire 18 days.

With shipped eggs and detached air cells, I set in the bottom of my Sportsman in a tray, fat end up so they do not turn the first 4-6 days and then most times set them up in the turner for the remainder of their 18 day stretch before candling and moving to the hatcher. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I agree. But judging by their reaction i don't think its going to happen. That woman was almost smiling at me as she was listening to what i had to say. I was so frustrated walking away from their house.

Thanks...these I have in a carton fat side up resting...I was thinking I would set them sat when we get back(that is my usual set day) and leave them in carton for a few days...you just helped me feel that is my best chance!!

That sux...I dont know what Lola is or how old and I know you are far away but I have some laying pullets I will donate...they are mixed but will be good layers...I am sure you can find some closer though but you are welcome to them...I hate hearing about loses...poor girls and Lola...Good luck and so sorry!

I can be witchy at times. OK a lot of times. A couple of years ago (before the dog attack last spring) ANOTHER neighbor had a dog to get loose and attack a couple of our goats. Bottle Fed babies! They did not answer the door the first day. Second day the lady came over to see how bad damage was, the third day I went to let her know she was responsible and I wanted to know who her homeowner's insurance was with, so my animals could be replaced. I have no idea why that scared the lady, but she did reimburse me for the stuff I had to buy to treat the goat who did survive that attack. Broken jaw, etc...lots of issues to deal with, we finally lost her though and I cannot remember now what happened - complications from that or another dog....I would have to check with DD. I just never bothered to tell the lady it died because I did not want the hassle.

It helps to remind people that poultry is LIVESTOCK. Just like cattle are. They would be have to reimburse if it was larger livestock. Same with small poultry.

And the neighborhood is a lot better, they know nothing about show birds, but are not wanting to compensate for those at all. It is like they think show bird = show dog. So let them. Keeps my silkies safer!

Last year, the first thing our favorite neighbor did was ask if I lost any silkies and if they could be replaced. We love these neighbors...

Bring your germs...I teach elementary kids...I CAN HANDLE THE GERMS!!

For example...a couple weeks ago one of my special kids saw me signing in(to teach diff class) and ran in the office,gave me a big hug and kiss...then apologized because I was gonna get sick because he was puking in the sink all night!! I have been sick with a cough but its allergies...not germs...I never get sick from germs!!

I have to add that the same little boy(special needs) was coloring one day when I was there and it was a pic of the chicken life cycle. He was coloring his eggs blue(hehe) and the special needs coordinator was there to see how class was doing. She told my joshy that eggs are not blue to which he informed her that yes they were and Mrs.Sam had some chickens that laid them and let him hold one!! I just nodded yes at her...I was and still am so proud of that little boy...he is so smart,just not in a normal way!!

here is a pic of my special class showing off thier belts we made that they painted bottle caps and we put them on old seat belts...Some of their poses were so funny!

If I were closer I would send some too! Of course, I have a child that would love a trip to Chas!


It may help to just politely let them know that you are considering this an unreimbursed loss, and next time YOU will not be so generous. Keep the peace a little
