Well, I can say that Coke and candy bars won't help him diet well. I tried that. Didn't work so well for me! ROTFL

Our pony was like that. We always teased that he could live on air. Even when I trained him for Endurance riding he did not lose off his tummy but he carried it well and we won enough for me not to worry.
Make sure he is dewormed well since it could just be roundworm tummy. I still have a fecal done on our boy since wild animals and birds carry in parasites. He never leaves the farm but after 4 years of negative fecals he came up positive last month. Ick.

No grain whatsoever and only low quality hay and pasture. That is about all you can do.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. I know it's not worms. The trainer has wormed them all, she has a regular regime she follows with the worming every so often. And it's not his tummy as much as it is his behind! He is a "wide" horse!

I love him just like he is but she complains about his weight because it's hard to fit the saddle. And the saddle moves a lot when riding him. I want him to be healthy so I worry about Cushings disease and such like that. She believes in graining the horses so I won't be able to take that away from him until we bring him home. She needs to spend a few more hours training him before we move him. And there is the issue with us not having the pasture fence up yet.......

Ah geez! I grew up with a maid. Now you see why my house is in such bad shape. Didn't have to do those things and still wish someone else will and usually DD does now.
I do love to mow the grass....when the mower works. I do not mind hard work. I just never learned the finer points of how to clean a house. I never had to keep my bedroom picked up and the maid seldom did my room since I lived in the upper story of the house with a long staircase she hated to climb, a 20x20 bedroom, my own bathroom and den, plus a walk in closet the length of my hallway. Our place now is tiny compared to that. However, I sure could use that maid now!
I must say, I did some dishes and dusted a bit to show mom how grown up I was when I was in my teens. She was not impressed! LOL

Like I said, I am a power tool kinda gal. And I love trucks.

I've BEEN a maid! LOL I cleaned houses in order to pay for my son to go to private kindergarten. I want to have a maid when I grow up.....

Bedtime for me too. Tylenol working again......And gotta get up early to go get food...... a local church is cooking bbq/hash/whatever ya call it.

Wish you guys wouldn't talk about house work. I need a maid around here. DH took off this week to finish the never ending porch and he has a few friends/family members helping. What a zoo--and I don't mean the poultry!

Oh, I have 40 Australorp, 20 Marans, and 3 dozen Dominiques eggs in the bator. They will hatch at different time of course. The 90 eggs that went in the hatcher only turned into about 60 chicks. I am thinking the new air conditioner DH put in late in the season is having an effect on the hatches. I have never lost of many chicks in the shell. I close the vent in that room but the intake is just outside the door. I have to figure something else out. I just can't stand loosing all those chicks.

I LOVE to cut grass...I do giggle and sneeze...and before our neighbor chuck moved we had mower races...even if he had cut his the day before!! And there is nothing wrong with being spoiled!! The mop part is too funny!! Me..I hate to dust...and fold clothes...I will clean floors and wash all day...dishes better watch out but dusting...maybe before the holidays!! It is funny but I worked at McD's for a short time in highschool too!!

It'd be hard to haul all that chicken food by horse unless he'll pull a wagon. Our horse is trained to drive a wagon, maybe I need to start looking for one. Amy, I need to ask you since you're a horse person....and Kimberly too if you know .... our Haflinger "Mike" is a bit, ummmm, healthy! Okay, he's fat and he's not losing weight. The trainer has him penned up during the day so he doesn't have full access to the pasture or hay but she isn't happy with him not losing weight. Any ideas of something I can do for him? He gets a small amount of grain once daily and she turns him out at night for hay and pasture. I've been researching the dietary supplements like Kelp that helps horses metabolize food better. Any opinions?

We raise minis and shetlands and show them, a lot of them have thyroid problems and you should put him on thyro-L, it will raise his thyroid levels! YOu can raise it as much as you want and they will lose weight and will help the crest if he has one...there are other products for the crest and Purina has a Pony/Mini feed for such horses...he does need good supplementation and should be on a good vitamin/mineral supplement as well as omega 3....

Well, the trainer must be doing something very wrong if she is complaining about his rump being big and not fitting the saddle. The saddle goes in the middle of the horse, not his rump! LOL
If the saddle moves a lot while he is being ridden then it isn't made for him and he needs a different tree size. They make different sizes and shapes and there is a kind that will fit him well. I had the same problem with my pony at first when I was a teenager but then after schooling I found the right one for him and never had problems again.
Mike is built to be wide as that is his breed. They are not thin horses.

It sounds like he will do much better once you get him home. She is complaining about something she is causing. Geez! It doesn't take but a quart a day to put weight on those breeds built for the rough countries.

Wait....I thought he was about 20 years old? He is still in training?
