Yay!! I am curious what finally got them to take ? Maybe hunger finally kicked in!!! They are so cute and will be the best Sheep when they grow up because you will be able to catch and handle them.My momma goat is a nightmare to get a hold of but the babies are lap kids! They even stand at the fence and call us to play!!

I've been bottle feeding two little lambs since Tuesday and it's been rough. Thanks to Dixiebeast for her advice! That stinking mom makes me so mad. She just won't take them.

Poor things. They both actually took the bottle for the first time this morning. I hope they make it. It has definitely been a learning experience.

I also have some turkeys! I bought 6 Bourbon Red eggs from someone (I wish I could remember where or who!) and I think they are all good. Three have hatched, one is zipping and the other two are pipped. That's pretty darn good for shipped eggs! Now I need to figure out what to do with them. How soon will you be able to tell girl from boy? I hope it's not like silkies!

We're going to finish up a run and let the lambs play this afternoon once it warms up. I'm sure they'd like out of their pack and play. Enjoy the beautiful day!

She had them on Monday afternoon and seemed to be nursing then. By morning she wouldn't pay them any attention. We're hoping they got some. We did the Colostrum Replacement on Tuesday. We can't catch the mom which has led to a whole host of issues. She's in our Barbados Blackbelly flock and they are super skittish. We tried everything to get her on Tuesday. They're just too fast. And then after awhile, they all knew what was up. We couldn't even entice them with food to a smaller pasture. Hopefully they'll be okay. They're on Lamb Milk Replacement now.

have they had any colustrom do you milk the mom and then bottle feed the lambs

I cut the opening on a baby bottle a little bigger so it kind of dripped out. They still try to wiggle away and clamp their jaws down but they do drink it. I hope it gets easier!

Yay...that is the easiest trick to try!! They will get the hang of it fast and it will get easier!! Soon they will be ramming the bottle to get the milk to let down like it was mom and knock it out of your hands!! I had a calf put me on my rear once doing that!!

Well...I'm afraid one of my d'Anver hens I got from Jackie isn't going to make it. She's always been the least active of the trio. I did notice about a week or so after I got them that she had some mites on her comb area. I know Jackie had dusted them before I got them...so I'm not sure if she picked them up somewhere here or what. Neither of the other 2 had them. So I dusted them all in Sevin and repeated it the next week. I don't see any mites on her now..but her comb has always been WAY paler than the other 2. Like a light pink rather than red. I don't know anything about their age, etc. The past 2 days she wouldn't get up on the roost and just got on the nesting box. I went down to their tractor this morning expecting the worst and she's still hanging in there but it isn't looking good. She's just kind of sitting there not really doing anything. She has been eating and drinking fine up until this point. I guess I'm going to try to offer her some other things now, but with things like this it seems inevitable for me that they don't make it.

The good thing is the roo and the other hen are doing great. They've always been super active and happy. I wonder if something's been going on with this little girl for a while and it's just now really taking effect. I'm keeping my fingers crossed she can hang in there. I really love my little d'Anvers!

Susanne, dont know if it will hold true for the lambs, but I had to feed one of my foals milk replacer. mom just didnt have enough. I was so surprised that he actually sucked it up from a bowl. I used the rubber bowl. SO it was so easy to feed him. He to this day looks for me and calls especially if it is close to feeding time. So may be worth a try.

I did start with a smaller diameter bowl so the milk was a little deeper, made it easer for him to get the hang of it. Once he was slurping, it didnt matter what bowl I used.

What a wonderful productive day!!! I got the A frame coop done,moved the reds in and finally cleaned out the big gals coop and got thier sand in!!! Now I just have to clean and move brooder chicks!! Maybe all this progress in one day will inspire DH to push and get the new fenced area up for Koda this weekend!! (BTW I will be helping!)

I forgot that. Kris is right. they just sucked it up. no straw or anything. just a bow. i never would have believed it if i didn't see it. mixed the milk replacer in the rubber bowl and put it in front of him and he drank it like a kid (pun intended) drinking soup from a bowl.

That is sooo cool!! Susanne must try! I wanna see a vid if they do because it will be soooo cute!!! Of course they are cute no matter but the bottle has gave her a fit! I will store this in my future needs file because we are planning on expanding the goats later !

Susanne and Sam, my vet told me they could slurp the formula up out of the bowl from day one. So I tried and it made it so much easeir.

Let me know if it works for the lambs. fingers crossed it will for you.
