So just wanting to check in on a Topic from my SC THREAD!!!

I watched a video and researched "feather sexing chicks"... Ok so who has done this? I saw you have to do it by 3 days of hatching and only really works on Large breed chickens...Thoughts ??? I wish I knew about this when I hatched my batch so I could give it a whirl!!! OK Holla back if ya done this before?!

PS and the treatment of chicks in a large commercial hatchery made my heart hurt just a bit...it's SO NOT the way i treat my chicks!

I am now seriously curious over my new gals...they both laid the most perfect pale sky blue eggs today!!

Yancey, I saw the feather sexing video too. After watching it, I went to look at the feathers on my chicks. There def was a difference in the wing feather lengths. Now, did I keep the chicks loony enought to see if the feather sexing was accurate? NO I DID NOT!!! I'm not that patient. Sorry

I cried thru that video, it was horrible. At that point I decided never to order from a hatchery again. I'll admit that I have since ordered from a hatchery but only after spending 2 years being completely over run with roosters. I've tried the feather sexing thing, there is a difference but I don't trust myself to use the method. I think certain breeds are easier than others to use that method.

I've had mottled eggs, spotted eggs and speckled eggs but I've NEVER had feather footed eggs!
