Hang on to a couple of those roos please. I have one tiny little Dorking chick out of my dozen eggs. If it turns out to be a hen I will take one of those roos off your hands. I sure hope she's a hen.

Looks GREAT! The chickens will love it. Good Job

It's finished, it's finished! Yahooooooo!

I still have a few little things here and there to tweak and adjust, but the roof is on, the roosts are up and the next boxes are in and level. We treated the wood with waterproofer, so I will have to wait a few days before I can put the girls in there. I am really excited. I think it turned out great. Not too shabby for $100 total :) I hope they like it.

Rosalie (Silver Laced Wyandott) @ 3 weeks

Since you are in waterloo you could bring them to TSC in laurens saturday...maybe you can swap or sell them there. There is a poultry swap there 9am to 11am!
I was thinking about coming down there to TSC in laurens this weekend anyways. Do I need to do anything to bring them down there? I really do hate to get rid of them, but we just have too many roosters and can't keep them. I would rather them be happy and healthy instead of fighting with the other roosters in the coop :( I never would have thought that I would be so attached to chickens, but I truly am.

I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!! Well somewhat excited! I'm pretty sure I found homes for all the babies that I'm not keeping. I really just hope they are going to good homes. I was afraid I was going to have to pay someone(Amy) to take them...lol I just hope the ones I'm keeping turn out to be girls except for the Blonde/Blue roo to replace my big Blue JG so in the future if anybody knows of anybody that may want him for breeding purposes PLEASE HOLLA he makes great babies(please keep this in mind) and if I need to post more pics of him I can!!!!!!
Now i to go decide who to keep.

Good for you! I am glad you found homes. I have my ear open for anyone wanting that big blue boy for breeding. My JG girls are sitting on Guinea eggs right now but I had thought of breeding them.
I just don't need anymore chickens. I am wore completely out lately. Probably because I am still cleaning up after the hail storm but the insurance adjuster came yesterday and took photos of everything and even looked at my barn roof and Silkie/Cochin shed roof and told me I will compensation for those. Okay! I may go ahead and have the Silkie/Cochin re-roofed since leaks in it would be disastrous!

Okay, had a very long day and thought I would share what I've learned from this new experience. We had a sick raccoon in the backyard this morning. It was actually inside the fence where I let my house dogs outside. It was turning in circles, not paying me or the dog any attention and obviously it was sick. So we killed it before it could affect any of the other animals and I called the Vet. The Vet told me to call DHEC. DHEC finally called me back several hours later. They no longer test sick animals for rabies unless they've been in contact with someone or a pet (budget cutbacks). So if you have a sick animal and you're lucky enough to catch it before it hurts or infects somebody, you're on your own. I asked about disposal of it, in case it was rabid I didn't want other wild animals eating it and getting sick too. I was told to double bag it and take it to the dump. Either that or bury it. He did tell me that there has been a recent outbreak of Dystemper in my area which can cause similar symptoms. Anyway, I shoveled the raccoon into a bag and then I shoveled the grass and dirt from under it into the bag also. Then I poured a gallon of bleach on the ground (and my shovel) just for good measure. Hopefully if the bleach doesn't kill the virus, it'll smell bad enough to keep my dogs away from. I've got to do some research on dystemper now. The rabies virus dies fairly quickly, not long after the animal dies. Just thought I'd share in case this could save someone else a few hours of phone calls. Apparently they don't care about sick wildlife unless they attack somebody.

Good job, joycats. You are always on your own; expect nothing less.
Occasionally, the agents of the government we pay for are useful - but in the main they expect you'll not bother them. If they do come to your call, they will be compelled to be government agents, and do the bidding of their masters. That's a paranoid conspiracy lunatics way of saying handle your own problems and be quiet thereafter!
When an animal behaves in an odd way like that, take no chances. Dispatch it.
In fact, it is a best choice to simply rid the area of predators, altogether. To heck with all that "'kumbaya', "all Nature's children together," stuff. We can go there when God returns.
In the meantime, it is them against your chickens and by default, against YOU. They must go elsewhere... or else.
