South Carolina

First I am so sorry! I do not look forward to the first time I have a predator get into my coop. I was telling my husband tonight about your snake--mainly because he is the coop builder--and he said his friend at work showed him a picture of a huge black snake that had been eating her chickens. Strange coincidence? Where in Upstate are you?

I am in Buffalo. I can see the walmart in Union from my driveway. Bear in mind this snake was different from the others I had trouble with. this one did not want the eggs. it did not want the one or two week old chicks either. it went for the larger 3 week olds.

I had 3 of my 6 little 3 week old guineas in the loss yesterday. I might be interested in the guineas or even more preferable would be some hatching eggs. If your interested in a pure Rhode Island Reds ( not those orange things people try to pass off as RIR's but pure dark burgandy and black like they are supposed to be ) we can swap out.

Welcome to all the newbies. I have been MIA, sorry.

Amy, have those guineas hatched yet? thinking it must be getting close. We now have a guinea hen sitting on a boat load of eggs, a chicken back brooding a few.

Anyone want some beautiful coral blue guineas???

Its almost time for the Greenville Dog show, so things are really getting crazy. FYI, AKC has a new thing they have started called: My dog can do that. It will be offered at the Greenville shows. it is basically an invite to bring your dog, go into a ring with some obstacles and have your dog do them, you will get a goodie bag, and allowed to walk around and see the show. There is no fee, but the TD center does charge for parking. IF you are interested in registrating your dog, they will be there to accept registrations, this includes those who have mix breeds.

So if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Please pass this along to anyone who may be interested, we will be having news coverage and all. So watch out for it, and please stop by if this is of any interst.

Sounds interesting option. My problem right now on hatching eggs, the guinea hen is sitting on some, and well that is also where the hens are laying. So they keep adding to the the pile. So I have no way of getting hatching eggs right now.
oops, robert just said there is now 3 guinea hens sitting on the nest.

Friends and Neibours in the upstate.
I would like to take a moment to remind you that I have never reached compacity in my incubators. I have run as many as 100 at a time which is a little less then a third of what I can run at a time.
There is always room if you are wanting to hatch and either do not have an incubator or if your incubator is over loaded.
If you are wanting RIR's I try to keep some ready for a new home. or I can hatch out on demand if your wanting day old chicks ( next hatch due the 15th of this month ) .

Also to all those sleepers out there who read the forums and have never registered with this site.
I know your out there because I sold 6 chicks yesterday to one couple locally who told me they read the site but have yet to participate. REGISTER !!!! You will find every one here has something you can benefit from.

I can be reached through this web site or at :

I believe an incubator can be the first step in the world peace everyone is looking for.
After all, who has time to fight when they have chickens to tend?

Leirob007, what a neighborly offer!
I noticed something this morning that alarmed me, and I was hoping for some advice: My stoutest hen (Queenie -- she's a fat-bottomed girl) jumped ON TOP OF the four-foot fence guarding the chicken run. I was outside sipping coffee at the time and screamed. She jumped back into her yard just as my cocker spaniel ran to the spot. The dog, Baxter, knows that the chickens are family, too, but he can't fight the instinct to kill. I'm worried that if I clip their flight feathers any shorter ( I clipped their right wings a month ago and their left wings last week), they might not be able to fly to their roost. Any ideas to discourage the girls from fence hopping? Installing a new fence and finding a new home for my Baxter are not options.

Sorry, guys. I'm still so new at this that I didn't know healthy chickens regularly jump onto 6-foot fences. I need to research and THEN post.

We'll attach deer netting across top of run.

This sounds cool. What part of the building will it be in? Should be lots of fun to watch.

There ya go. I use chicken wire. where I have tops over the pen. I know some people that use that webbing like they use on construction sites. I will warn you to make sure whatever you use is not only for keeping the chickens from flying out. but also to keep others out. That fella I was referring too with the construction netting had a hawk fly in. and could not fly back out. before he got back home all 53 of his 4 week old chicks had passed on to the bigger chicken pen in the sky, When he called the game warden to ask about killing it. they replied " you do not have anymore chickens in there that are in danger so release it , and plan accordingly before you restock it."
Hawks and Owls are protected by Law.
Your chickens have to be protected by you.

LeiRob- did u go to West Springs to see the fire works? Pretty awesome......

Every time I go to union I look to see if you are home. You are pretty easy to stalk, being that you are Sooo close to some pretty good eats, and Wally World. Have you ever ate at Leonard's? My husband says that a loooong time ago it was a barber shop. Hard to try something new when that BBQ is sooo good.

U need to get that old car running.....too classic
