Hey! It was nice talking to you the other day on the phone! Chickens are so addictive!

No, turkeys are not hard to raise as long as you follow the guidelines. I think Kris and Robert did like I did and had them in a wire bottom pen until they were about 6 weeks old and then put them out on the ground. They are friendly from day one as Robert quickly found out! They have always loved him!

And there is nothing cuter than a 2 week old turkey poult walking around trying to look proud displaying their butt fluff! They drop those wings and those fuzzy tail feathers shoot up and they arch their little pencil skinny necks! Poor dears kept getting snatched up for kisses! I am surprised they even display for me now! :lau   But all I have to do is croon a bit and they display for me. And they still get picked up and kissed on. They love it! :p

Let me assure you, I am very used to it. My mother's side of the family was from up north. They thought they knew EVERYTHING! My dad was an auto mechanic since he came back from WWII and yet the men folk tried to tell him how to fix a car (they were pencil pushers). His blood pressure was sky high at the end of every visit.
I can forgive anything if I don't have to hear it every day.
Don't be embarrassed by your mom. Enjoy her funny quirks and hug her often. She just wants attention and lots of hugs makes her feel better.

We will be processing some roosters and ducks if I haven't sold out by the first of Oct. You are welcome to come out and help/watch. We don't pluck so you have no worries there. We only eat the breast and wheels (leg quarters) so we don't skin or pluck or nothing too hard. If you like the heart, kidneys or gizzard and what ever else, you are welcome to it. Bring a cooler.

I talked with your sister on FB today. She says she has chickens and Mary was her neighbor. I am sure you told me that but I did not remember at the time. She sounds just as nice as you are!

I am booked up for the next month or so but hope to get your way again for a visit! Love our visits together! I think Teresa is at the beach this week. I am so jealous.....

You are most welcome.

Thanks for the compliment. I can only take credit for owning her, I did not breed her but am glad to be hatching chicks from her.

Its funny you mention the difference between Northerners and Southerners because our office manager was telling us about her family going to Michigan for work when she was a kid and the culture shock. In a lot of ways its like being from a whole different country.

I'll totally come by and help! I'd be glad to take the giblets and feet from both if they are unwanted. I haven't acquired a taste for the feet but my mom loves them - duck feet would be a real treat for her. Processing for quarters and breasts make a lot of sense. I can't think of the last time I cooked a whole bird.

Ick! I can't eat or cook that. I guess I would have had to have been raised using those parts but now I just can't do it. I use broth just from the actual meat, not very fatty but still is some flavored broth.
You are welcome to all the other parts. As of now I have about 5 roosters and 6 ducks that need to go but I sell all the time so in a few more weeks I am sure I will be down in numbers to process.
