Yes, they are injected with the antibodies (called live vaccine) and can shed it. I can't see that as helping a whole lot but that is what it is.

Yeah I worry about getting chickens that were vaccinated and then having them pass things on.

I have had sick chickens since the first of September. They are still sneezing. I have used two different antibiotics. I have paid the Chicken doctor Dr. Brown to help me. I have spent more than $100 and I am sooooo tired of trying to treat and getting nowhere. They are not sickly--just sneezing and sometimes wheezing. It means I can't add any new chickens and I have to keep them separate. I also worried that it will eventually spread to my older lf. I have a friend who suggested culling them all at this point. I don't want to do that either BUT I am not sure what the right thing is to do. They are up playing and such. I have lost 2 in almost 6 weeks. My other worry is that they will now be a carrier of this illness and spread it to any new chickens I get. I also worry that any new chickens in the coop will get sick. I do have oxine but I am just not sure how to insure getting all the surfaces. Ughhh let me tell you I am soooo over this illness thing! I don't know how we got it and I don't know what it is. The next one to die is going to get a necropsy--I hope--so I can maybe have an idea of what is going on! Thanks for listening!!

!!! Please keep us updated with what you learn? Could they have a cold?

Avonshire, at npip class, if you really want to know it is better to send a live bird for dr helm to evaluate and then a necropsy. so you send her a chicken with the worst signs. yes you sacrefice that bird, but you will get a better diagnosis.
hope this helps a hard decision, but may be worth it, so you dont loose the entire flock

Hello from Galivants Ferry! (Halfway between Florence and Myrtle Beach) I have a small egg laying flock and the occasional broiler batch. Still trying to decide if I'm happy with that, or if I should "get serious" about a particular breed. We're a homeschooling family, three children age 8, 6 & 3. Two oldest are just getting involved with the local 4-H that's just getting started.

Anyway, figured I'd say Hi! :)

I think I will start digging into the thread about 50 pages back. ;)

OK Well truthfully I like that plan better. How do I get a bird to the Dr.? Where is the doctor? I have one that is my sickest. I am willing to sacrifice one ... I think!
