Chido, you probably live like a few miles from my house, so I could pick you up on the 24th. I will be leaving here 'bout 9-9:30 AM. Please let me know. Can you get a pic of the newbee? Any ideas what her breed is? I am guessing gamey mutt. Does she look to be full grown or youner? If no one wants her I can always take her out to the stables and she can live there. Let me know.....

If I'm not working on the 24th then I'll give you a call, I get my work schedule a week ahead so if I'm free I'll definitely go, I'll post here and let you know,

. the pullet is as mutt as they can get, and I'll tell my brother in law that I found somebody who can take her if he doesn't want to keep her. There are other three young chickens running around that he wants to catch, and he has his eye on a pretty white one that looks almost columbian in color. I'd rather get a larger hen for my rooster, because these mutts aren't too big. three of our chickens are from that street flock that we found when they were days old chicks, and they weight between 3 and 5 pounds at 5 months, and one of them already laid an egg. My brahma roo is already 6-7 pounds, he needs a big girl to keep him company XD.

Thank you again for the offer to pick me up, I really hope I don't work that day so I can go <3

Here are some pictures of the mutt pullet, she seems to be about the same age of mine, which is about 5 months. Her face is hurt, I think either she panicked and tried to get out, or my barred rock was trying to fight with her through the crate when I walked away for a few minutes to get the mutt some water. i should have been more careful

Edit: I got my barred rock hen from wes' pets and feeds. We already asked him to look for a large young hen for us in that color, hopefully he'll find us one so we can catch and rehome these chickens instead of trying to tame them ourselves. I never had chickens before until we decided to keep the chicks we found, so I don't see myself experienced enough to deal with a stray, unsociolized chicken

Well I am glad you were able to catch her, poor girl. In Avocado Heights there are alot of chickens but very few strays. Sometimes we will see them in the park but not often......I have a year old gamey mutt girl I would like to rehome. I am getting more and more into the Serama breed ans she is just too large and could hurt them if she wanted to. She is large fowl size.

I have had her since she was one month old.
Lets see how it works out with your work schedule / and the little hen and go from there.

omg she's so pretty... i would keep for for the color... that, and once gamey mutt hens... well in my experience... once they worm up on you, they are very sweet and great mothers... her color is different alright... i'm thinking isabel... but then again, she has dark spots... kind of like a splash, but not enough of them... hmmm... how big is she...? LOL...

also... hit up elias pet shop in los angeles... google it... they always have adult hens for pretty good prices IMO... some are hatchery, some are local breeders and stuff... you know how that goes... last time they had a nice flock of light brahmas... i have a light brahma young hen, but she's very ugly... LOL... i might need to find another home for her before i eat her... she's so sweet...

well i will have 4 buffslikied/japanese bantam cross for sale on the 24th no idea what sex as they are developing slow like silkieds do. about 10-12 weeks old. they are sweet and good at cleaning up weeds LOL. please let me know if anyone is interested

You're going to be hard pressed to find eggs for meat birds. The cornish cross people buy from hatcheries are a hybrid, so they won't breed true. You could still get an ok meat bird from breeding two cornish cross, but it won't grow the same way as the parents. Because they aren't meant to live long and they are expensive to feed, it isn't really economical to keep them for breeding so most people don't bother. You could get some good quality dual-purpose eggs and raise them for meat...

wow, learn't something new today and its only 8:30 AM! I is all smart 'n stuff now......Very interesting....Thanks potterwatch:thumbsup
