Southern snow chickens!

I'm a huge worry wart too, especially about the animals and the chickens in particular. I've learned though that the chickens are alot tougher than they appear.
Last night when I went to check on the two coops I found deer tracks all over their yard, right up to the doors on the coops. The deer never come this close to the house. Seems they are confused about this white stuff too.

i kinda miss the snow... but where I am in central Florida... went to work at 7am in a light long sleeved tshirt. Hitting mid 70s this afternoon.

Personally, I feel they are in more danger from being locked in, than from being allowed out in lousy weather. Think of what feeling crowded does to a chicken. I can't imagine locking my chickens in a coop all day.

I agree with you Dawn. The babies are out now, although staying close to their coop. Their coop is very large for the # of birds in it, but I know they need fresh air. They need sunshine too, but it doesn't look like we'll be seeing any of that today.

artsyrobin The silkies were the first ones out the door awhile ago. Silly birds!

bburn I currently have one broody, a SF. She's doing great, although we had to replace her eggs; something was wrong with the first batch she had. We also have eggs in the bator, due to hatch the same day she is. My meatie broody broke, on something like day 15 I think it was. I have another SF refusing to leave the nestbox. We've re-named the baby coop, the broody coop.

Here in Ky,we also have had quite a bit of snow and some very cold days. The coop stays around 30 degrees so they are warm enough and can come in anytime they want to. been seem to like it outside, even in the snow. However, I had a frozen egg yesterday and it was half eaten. I think it was a first egg for one of my silkies as the shell was very thin and it was very small. I do not know if any of my other eggs have been frozen but they lay at all different times of day so I can't always catch them right after they are laid. Anyone else have frozen eggs??

More pics I took this morning. I shoveled snow around the adult coop once yesterday morning. After that it was up to the birds to deal with it.
