I have been feeding dumor starter but I am thinking about switching to something else. I have a southern states mill within a few miles of my house. Within the past 6 years this particular mill has nationally ranked #1 three times. Is the feed any good?

I currently have 2 ten week old pullets. Tomorrow I am getting 4 eight week pullets and I also have four 4-5 week old chicks

I have been using Southern States meat maker feed for my birds for a while now and have no complaints. The price is right and the birds eat it well.

Thanks. I just now got an email from a friend who told me that there is a local family owned feed mill that she buys from. She said the quality is much better and it is a lot cheaper than dumor. I'd like to call tomorrow and inquire about their prices. Are there any other specific questions I should ask about their feed?

I use the meat maker feed (http://www.southernstates.com/catalog/p-9950-southern-states-all-grain-meat-bird-maker-50lb.aspx) because I have a mixed flock of meat birds, layers, ducks and guineas. It is a 20% protein feed. For 50 lbs. of the meat maker it runs 18 bucks, which is maybe a little cheaper than Dumor at TSC. The layer feed seems to run around 15 or so at TSC (I have never looked into it at Southern States because I never intended to use it). In my experience, the guys at the Southern States stores seem to know more about poultry than the people at TSC. Good luck.

I stand corrected. I picked up a bag of meat maker today and it was only 16 bucks for a 50lb bag. I did find out that TSC has the feed store beat on oyster shell by a substantial amount. The feed store wanted 16 for a 50lb bag and TSC had theirs for 10...and on top of that the bag I grabbed was busted open and they gave it to me for 7 bucks.

I have been thinking about using this food for my American Bresse. How did you like the results when using this?

It was OK. I liked the pellets, but I paid $20/50 lbs in my area. Ouch..the meaties cost me $50/week when I used it. Ended up switching back to something else.

What did you switch to? My American Bresse hardly eat at all (only 2 weeks old). But I have a feeling that they will soon.

I've been feeding Southern States meat bird maker to my Silkies and Call ducks for a while now. They do great on it. I was feeding their gamebird feed, but the meat bird maker is much cheaper :)

I went back to the turkey grower, and they grew like weeds, and now that they are at weight, I'm just holding them for slaughter and went back to Flock Raiser...had a coupon ;)
