Southern States Layer Pellets - Opinions?

If you look back in the posts about a year ago you'll see a thread on this same problem with Layena. After talking with a few folks in the feed industry it looks like an economics issue. With all the grain that's being shanghied for ethanol fuel production that leaves the feed and grocery industry very short(and costly) on supply. The smaller crumbs and dust that once was considered waste is now included in the bag to help keep the cost of feed in check. You see the same thing at the grocery too! Higher prices and more "crumbs" in your cereal.

IF you want some one to blame, look no further than the folks in Washington that lobby for "green fuels", not understanding that taking the grain for fuel drives up our food costs and hurts everyone! Plus the added acreage of grain raised for biofuels also takes more fuel, fertilizer and chemicals to produce so we really have not gained anything! So freakin' stupid!!!!

Regular nutrena isnt, but you can get organic nutrena. It's about $14.90 for 40# bag at the place near me.

I see no organic feed on the Nutrena website, is it new?

It could be another company under Nutrena, but it has the Nutrena name. I think it's Nature Wise, or something like that. I just bought a bag of all flock, but I threw the bag away, otherwise I'd go get it and let you know the name for sure.

Naturewise is not organic just uses the buzzword "natural".

You are correct about NatureWise. It is not Organic. It's really not any different than their regular feed line. It is a gimmick feed, in a smaller bag, for a higher price.

Nutrena does have an organic product, though. It is branded as "NatureSmart". Nutrena does not manufacture it. As far as I know, it is manufactured by Kreamer Feeds AKA "Natures Best".

Cargill has the copyright on Nature Smart, Cargill and Nutrene are "sister companies".

Right, yes. Cargill is the parent company, and is the largest family business in the world. They do not have a certified organic manufacturing facility though. Nature Smart is a cargill brand, however, the product inside of the Nature Smart bag, is not manufactured by Cargill.
