Southern style suppah's ....

Don't know if the meal is exactly southern but since I am and have been eating it all my life....liver and onions, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, ford hook lima beans, buttermilk biscuits or yeast rolls with homemade butter and strawberry preserves and iced tea. Dessert would be buttermilk gingerbread with lemon sauce and a cup of coffee.

Harlens that looks de-lish.

Lets see does southern france
count for southern suppah's .... hmm...

it's not fried... but was saute'ed in butter, and a cast iron
skillet
was used.

She did make bread with the meal.

More than just one vegtable, and she used of those their fancy herb dressin' up suppah deals.

Hmmm... I don't know, I did not see any corn or cornbread

Mmmm... that'da been good with that meal.. cornbread.

She is married to a southerner (if my memory is right, I think)

I suppose I can make the exeption, but if you were to set
a plate of your fine suppah down in front of a southern young'un
they may look at you like what in the world is that green frilly stuff
on top of my chicken

That looks yummy!
My favorite is simple. Pinto beans cooked with salt pork, fried potatoes, cornbread, cole slaw and sweet tea.

my fave for hot nights...

corn bread (NOT JOHNNY CAKE!)
green beans with potatoes and ham hock
corn on the cob
sliced tomatoes, room temp please! don't put tomatoes in that fridge!

to die for. yum.

Yummeeee! I'd like to have that meal. It's similar to what we might have, but fried okra and blackberry jelly instead of zucchinni and cherry jelly.

All of that looked absolutely delish!!! But this southern girl's (I'm a transplant to NM, born in SW Virginia) favorite meal is baked sugar cured ham, fresh green beans with some taters and some kinda pork in them ( take your pick : ham, salt pork or bacon), homemade tater salad ( for me it MUST be my uncle's recipe), deviled eggs, sliced fresh maters and cukes, corn on the cob, homemade biscuits ( a must have with or without the preserves) and a slice of homemade carrot cake with REAL buttercream icing. Oh and DO NOT FORGET the REAL BUTTER for my biscuits and corn!!!!

ETA: And I want my spoon to be able to stand in my sweet tea!!!

Dang you all are making ME hungry for some real southern food! I haven't had the real thing since 1978 when I was living down in Louisiana. Talk about TRUE Southern food!
