Those are pretty aren't they?

I have the same pieces for 12 people and the serving bowls and gravy bowl to match from my Great Grandma. It seems funny to see them online.
Gotta add the fried green tomatoes too.

Its a hard choice. Its hard to beat butterbeans, cornbread, mashed taters, sliced maters (out of my garden of course) a big glass of sweet tea and a chunk of Vidilia(sp) onion!!!!! I wouldn't exactly turn down the meal you fixed either!!!!!

I don't post too much on here, but that meal deserves some attention...my mom is from eastern Kentucky and I can't tell you how many Sunday dinners we had that looked just like that! Wow!...

My wife is a good cook, but doesn't make some of the the stuff I had growing up....cornbread (not the dang box stuff!!), grits, bisquits....and meal gravy.

Anybody ever eat "meal gravy"?? I think it's just gravy made with cornmeal intead of flour (?)....I love it!

.... I remember eating meals of bacon, fried potatoes w/ meal gravy, sliced tomatoes, onions and iced tea at my granny's in the summer....some of my favorite memories...I still get it about once a summer when the 'mater's get ripe (mom still makes it...)

If i remember correctly it is made from the drippings of the bacon with cornmeal gound down to flour form. I e-mail my aunt to find out for sure. I remember having that when I spent my summers done in Tn.

i have never had this, nor heard of it, but it sure sounds interesting, do you have a recipe or know of one?

I can get the recipe....I've never made it....just ate it! But I think it is what bigkford said....gravy made from bacon drippings (YUM) and corn meal....don't know if it is ground finer or not....mom's probably isn't... just corn meal...my granny made it a lot in the summertime.......

What I'm not sure of is if I long for that gravy cause I love the gravy or if it just reminds me so much of my granny. I loved her bad.

Now if any of you all make it I'd better sample it to make sure it's legit...so let me know so we can schedule

My aunt e-mailed me back, she will have the recipe by tomorrow for us. It can be made both ways, fine ground or regular cornmeal. But I say you have to get your cornmeal from the south in order to get the right taste. My other aunt sends me cornmeal from Tn. once a month. I won't buy cornmeal from here. It is just not the same. Where in Ohio do you live? Cause I think it is both missing your granny and wanting to have that gravy again. I feel the same way. I got the good cornmeal today so how does this weekend sound?
