I am glad you are going to do the stucco. That will be the icing on this lovely cake. The first coat that you put on does not need to have the coloring in it. You comb that coat with the teeth on the trowel and let it dry completely. That is called the scratch coat or base coat. Those horizontal grooves give grip for the smooth, colored top coat to really sink into.
