Hello, My name is LaNell and I'm confussed about a few things and maybe you can help. First of all I understand that feeding soybean meal is ok, but how much do you feed? Do you feed it dry or mix with water?

I have alot of different birds and just not getting the egg production that I think that I should and someone suggested purchasing a bag and trying it. After finding out the cost (over 21.00) for a bag I sure hope it works.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi, LaNell - I don't know if my experience will help you or not, but here goes - I've had chickens on and off all my life, since 60 yrs ago. I can't say I've been very careful to follow any rules with them! I've always enjoyed them, and just get what they give. I recently lost my 'old' hen - she died of her last moulting at 9 years old. She laid eggs on and off for almost all that time. She stopped laying at about 5 yrs, then she began stealing sips of coffee from my mug as I sat outside in the mornings. Well, that coffee must have stimulated her, she started laying again - for another 4 years! Only stopped to moult. Another thing about that hen - she never would eat the laying crumbles, just didn't like them - all I fed her was scratch, some oatmeal, house scraps, and she free-ranged all the time. So she did not get any food that would stimulate egg production. I'm sure it was the coffee - with cream and sugar!

Also, a friend of mine said that on the farm, the chickens got whatever the cows got, with the addition of cayenne pepper, to stimulate laying. He said it worked well, too. I hope that your hens begin to give you what you eggspect!

thank you so much, I can tell that you really like you birds. However since I dont drink coffee and started to take cups of coffee to the birds my companion would know for sure I slipped off the edge.
