building a moving coop 3'x5' and 3' high how many hens can i raise

some say 4 sqft per bird and others say 3 sqft

3 would fit very comfortably, but 4 would fit comfortably.

I have seen several times that for standard sized clucks inside a coop (at night, kept inside due to inclement weather, etc.), the rule is about 4 sq. ft. per bird.

In an outdoor run - such as a chicken tractor, etc. - I believe the sq. ft. per bird should be in the 7-8' range. I think a little more is always better.

It sounds like you are talking about a "chicken tractor" where both the coop and the run are moveable. Is that right??

If so, you only have room for a couple of hens.

The general rule is that you need 4sq feet of COOP space PLUS 10sq feet if RUN space per hen. Since you live in FL and your hens won't spend many days locked up in the coop, you could get away with slightly less coop space ----AS LONG as they are free-ranged or have the run space noted above!!!
