How much space does each chicken need in a coop if they have an outdoor run?

I'm hearing lots of different things. 2 feet? 3 or 4 feet?

depends on the weather do you get fairly bad winters if so 4 feet per bird min. and 2 feet per bird if it is where they can get out year round

It depends on your climate; it also depends what your goal is (to just keep them basically alive, mostly, for a few years; or to avoid the highest risks of cannibalism; or to have them act relaxed and natural).

Personally I won't give them less than 10-15 sq ft apiece plus run, and that is NOT because of my winters either; but, everyone's goals and philosophies are different. And of course there *are* some climates where they just literally ARE never in the coop except to sleep or lay, 365 days a year, and in that case all you need is sufficient roost space in there.

Good luck, ahve fun,

Pat
