This is Buck, a beautiful, dominant Spanish Black tom... he is 2 years old, 35-40lbs (he is big!) and is extremely friendly and docile. He is great with people, dogs, goats, ducks, and chickens (though he has not been raised around them--I would let him and his hens wander around the yard briefly, and he didn't cause any trouble). He is an excellent tom and does his job well, it's VERY rare for me to find an infertile egg! Or he would make an excellent pet, but he does need to have an audience (he would not do well alone). He also gobbles constantly to any little sound, you can even talk to him and he'll gobble back. He has the most gorgeous feathers--they're solid black with iridescent tips and bars.
We're looking to rehome him quickly because we're going to go with a different breed (Standard Bronze and/or Narragansett) for raising/processing. With spring arriving, I can't keep him with my current flock as he causes trouble with the other tom and my hens don't really care for him! If you are planning on using him for breeding, I would recommend saddles for your hens.
The most recent pictures are the ones where he's behind some fencing... you can't entirely see, but he is molting right now. His belly is completely bare and his fan feathers are beginning to fall off. He will regrow all of his feathers by the end of the summer, and look beautiful just in time for fall.
Limited pickup/delivery area... we need to find a new home for him quickly. We are 40 minutes southeast of Rochester. Please PM me if you're interested!
Thanks for looking!!
