Yesterday my niece told me they dont have spanish in her middle school. I only took 1 class in highschool.

I would think in todays world they would have it starting in elementry school?

It seems so much harder to learn as you get older...

Yes, one would think....

Actually I believe the best age is much younger, like grade school.

But then our educational system seems to have one or two other flaws....

I want to enroll my *almost* 4 year old son in some after school spanish studies

I think if you want your child in a spanish class it should be up to the parent not the school!, i grew up in quebec....ther system there is so back words and out dated!!!, (sorry if i ofended any one), but as a mother of 2 young boys and a teen age girl and after what i went through in quebec my first prioraty is english fisrt, once the little guys master that, thaey can move on to any thing the want

I tend to agree that I think it should be up to the parent's and kids whether or on they want to take it. It should be an 'elective' class not something that's mandatory.

Why do we HAVE to know Spanish?

We don't HAVE to, but wouldn't it be nice?

Enhanced cognitive deveolpment & the ability to make cool new friends! Europeans speak more than one language. It helps them do business with others and helps with travel.

We adults don't HAVE to know anything. We are free to be as ignorant or as educated as we please. I just hate the thought of denying educational opportunities to our kids, though.

Just becasue i choose to not learn Spanish does not make me ignorant.. Lets just get that straight..

Would i deny my child the class if they taught it in his school? Nope.
Also..i live in the North East....I'm not on the Border or something..If i lived by the border then i think i'd feel different about NEEDING to learn it.
