Hi there,

I had a novel chicken purchasing experience the other day - we had to choose our chickens based on what we could catch from a mixed flock (ducks, too) running through a pasture. We ended up with four very calm, pretty, friendly Dutch girls and what appears to be a baby Silkie cockerel (hope we're wrong on the gender).

What can I expect in terms of how loudly/how often the Dutch girls will speak up? I had an OEGB and she didn't speak often but when she did, it was piercing! Is it the same with these gals?

Thanks in advance!

I read that the dutch breed with the white feathers that resemble a hat on their heads are not keen on being penned in and like to free range best.

They are beautiful though! So where are your photos of these girls and possible young hero?

Congratulations on your new Dutch Bantams! I have been breeding Dutch for five years now, and we just adore them. In fact, the bird on my shoulder in my avatar is a Dutch hen.

Dutch are generally pretty quiet, although they will cackle when they lay an egg. But I wouldn't call it piercing by any means.

If you'd like more information on Dutch, you can find it here:
