That's actually not a bad idea... I wonder if the woman that we got our incubator eggs from would be willing to lend us a hen... I wonder if my dh has a contact for her not tied to her office...

Confession is good for the soul.

Monday night I moved my eglu to a new spot so the pullets could have "greens" again, changed their water, filled up their feed......Wednesday after work I go out to let them free range for an hour or two.....looked down and saw that I had put the feed (appropriately named "grub grub") at the proper height BUT I had put the "glug glug" (waterer) up to high for my bantam's, my EE was fine but...

......the only way my banty's would have been able to drink is if they took turns standing on each other shoulders. I had let them out so they had RUN to the other waterer I have out & stood there drinking for a good 5 minutes......hangs head in shame.....

heh maybe we need a sticky "our stupid moves" post to a.) remind us when we screw up that everyone has done it at some point and b.) well, mostly a. *laughs* (and give newbies a list of things to be aware of, so they can find all new screw ups to add to the list lol)

So he's definitely staying around the house and has associated it with home, so that's a good thing.

And now that it's getting dark he's checking out behind the house (where the coop and run are). He's still looking a little twitchy, but he went into his run and ate a little, got some water and then started checking it out.

Maybe he really does know he's home and my hopefulness won't totally bite me on the bum?? Maybe.

After spending the afternoon roaming around the home that he will essentially have the run of eventually, he came home, got into his little chicklu and went to bed.. I'm going to wait until it's a tiny bit darker and go out and latch everything in.

Good thing he's coming back. They usually do. I let my 3 weekers out after their first night in the run and have yet to have one not make it back... somtimes it's on the wrong side of the fence but I don't blame their little brains for not yet understanding how to walk two feet around the door to get in. Good luck.

See...I figured he would be close to home...just let him out once in awhile and watch him...also throw some scratch or cracked corn ( its' like candy to them)..he will stick close to home and know where bedtime is......
