Speaking of TSC chicks, sell out this year too ?

I think the chicken and gardening boom is over with from last year due to Covid. I've seen alot of folks just give away their chickens on Craigslist and it took some time to do that from what I noticed. Not to say they won't sell chicken or gardening things, but it won't be like last year, although I see the price will still be inflated.

The gardening boom is just as bad, if not worse. I normally order my seeds in Feb but I didn't wait this year, and I'm glad I didn't because there's now up to a 1 month turnaround, and a lot of stuff is out of stock.

(regarding their $30 minimum/5 chick order)

Welll.... hmmmm.... I called their number and the first time it said they had a special for people over 50. I pressed 1, because I am 50+, and got transferred to a "free medical something-something offer." I hung up. Misdial?

I called back, got a menu that eventually put into a mailbox, but I didn't really want to leave a message, so again, I hung up.

I emailed them and will let you know if I hear back.

Regarding ordering small orders from Ideal... yup, can't order less than $30 worth of chicks. Can't pay $30 for less than $30 worth of chicks either. This is from my email with Ideal:

"Since the minimum order is only in poultry, you would have to order more chicks to meet that minimum. We can’t ship just 4 chicks which is why we have that minimum order amount in place."

I guess I take my chances that TSC has some Blue Australorps, or wait until May or June.

Unless someone near me (Grand Rapids area, MI) wants to split an order...

Not sure if Craigslist is big in your area but you might want to check on there.
Also, since FB doesn't allow animal sales there is another place called MeWe where a lot of homesteaders have gone to posting instead of FB

Have you tried any of your locally owned feed stores that sell chicks? They may be able to order what you are looking for. The feed store I used would always order what I wanted, then sell the extras. Sadly, they went out of business last year.

I too was wanting Blue Australorps, but I didn't want to get them in May. I try not to have small chicks in snake season. I lucked out and happened to go to Atwoods farm store. They had Blue Australorps! I bought all 12.
