In the Brooder
Hello...We have an almost 2 year old Buff Orpington hen that we need to re-home. She is the sweetest thing and loves to be held and cuddled. Unfortunately she wants to be with people much more than other chickens. She has been raised with the same group of chickens since they were chicks but we have never been able to successfully get her to mesh with the flock. Her little head is bald from being picked on and she is terrified of the chickens. We ultimately end up bringing her in the house. She loves being in the house. She will stay in a medium size wire dog crate with her basket nest and be pleased as punch! We let her out in the yard without the other birds a couple times a day and she'll come back to the door when she's ready to come in and she'll go back to her crate. She'll even lay her eggs in there. We cover the crate with a blanket at night and she'll sleep till we get up in the morning. She'll follow you around the house and responds to her name. We would keep her because she is so easy but we have an indoor dog that thinks she might be fun new sqeak toy.
