Special Treats!!

Do not count on your chickens "knowing" what is bad for them...also do not count on these "toxic" plants immediately being identifiable by finding a dead bird the next morning...usually it is a slow process damaging organs , inhibiting the ability of your bird to utilize the nutrients in their feed, etc.

My girls LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOOOVE strawberries! I had been giving them a few bits regularly for a while. I painted my toe nails red one night, and boy did they go NUTS on my toes the next day! It was HILARIOUS, yes a little painful but funny! Lets just say its closed toes for me from now on. Lol my girls also love zucchini, peaches and kale. They love the live and dried meal worms just as much as strawberries. I love my silly girls

I began juiceing my tomatoes today. Collected the skin which was shredded along with all the seeds and a lot of pulp. My hens just went wild over it. I dont give mine anything that is not natural in the free-range world except for laying mash. I remember my Grandma fussing about the chickens getting her tomatoes before she could, when I was a child and decided to try this and see where it took me. I give them everything out of the garden that I cant use and they just love the garden stuff. It is good for them, cuts down on the feed and they just love it. Since I have learned about what they like and since we are in the garden stage, I am trying to make sure they get all they can eat from it. Winter months, probably gonna give them some corn or cracked corn. Gotta try ad keep them as happy as I can , while I can. I am afraid this yr our winter months might be a little trying....just saying, dont know what is in store but I love my birds

Mine dont like potato skins. I guess, just like ppl, we all have our own taste but mine sure wont eat potato skins. I have never seen a chicken that didnt like potato skins, new to me

At the end of summer we let them into clean up the vege patch. They feast on cherry tomatoes, celery, lettuce, corn and even coriander . I give mine raw rolled oats in their seed ration.

We have a ton of black berry bushes growing around our house and my hens absolutly love them. The also love any sort of fruit that's gone a bit to ripe.
