Special Treats!!

My chickens were very finicky at first, would only eat meal worms. Now their favorites are bird food, sooey cakes, apples blueberries. They love bread and especially clover that grows all over my yard. I can't go out to them without them expecting something...

Mine really love cooked corn on the cob, the bigger hens will try and pick the cob up and run away with it, it's really funny to watch. Occasionally, I also make a treat for them that is yogurt mixed up with cut up fruit and oat grains. That one is probably their favorite. Although it isn't necessarily healthy for them, every once in a while ill give them cooked spaghetti noodles mainly because its fun to watch them entertain themselves with chicken keep away. Any veggies that are still good, but not getting eaten we give them too. They love cucumber and the skins even.

Does anyone have a chicken that will eat strawberries ?

mine wont touch them
Ours love to get in the into the strawberry bushes. We normally let them have whatever is left after we get our harvest. They still check the plants when we let them out to free range in the afternoons to make sure no more have grown. They also seem to like our petunias and forsythia bush that I call bushzilla.

We have a farmers market in town & a produce market so I go there once a week and they give me all the stuff that they cant sell:) they esp love tomatoes & peaches!! Saves money on feed too! also we go to the elevator and farmers are taking off wheat whatever they spill the give me free!! I got 2 50lb bags of wheat and a few buckets!! I planted some in my garden for greens for them!!

Gosh my girls get about everything. Their favorite is frozen blueberries, but they will eat just about any kind of fruit. Watermelon, peaches, bananas, strawberries, they also like corn as well. We have a cow so they LOVE to scratch through his manure for the undigested feed or the hay he's left uneaten. I also give them Alfalfa hay and they love!

My feathered princesses of Cluckingham Palace weren't interested in treats until my in-laws visited from England. Now I can't walk over to their run without them expecting some sort of treat! They love ANY kind of melon, most fruit, leafy greens and bread. They are like most children in that they leave the majority of veggies behind.
