Special Treats!!

Quaker oats and mealworms are a go to for me. My girls love them both. Watermelon is also another treat I will give them from time to time. Can't go wrong with the tub of old fashioned Quaker oats; cheap and they love em!

Thanks for the confirmation on Quaker oats. Have to see how my girls like it raw.

Yea for sure. Aside from the mealworms, the tub of Quaker Oats is the number one treat I give; not the quick 5 min ones, but the real old fashioned Quaker Oats. They are also not filled with a bunch of chemicals and crap, just simple oats. I keep my girls as "natural" as I can as far as feeding goes, and they simply love these. They come running when they hear me shaking the oats tub!

At the time I had a cocker spaniel, I didnt know that dogs cant have chocolate but I fed my cocker spaniel chocolate chip cookies and he expected them everytime I came home. I didnt feed them to him that often but when I did, he just loved them. He died from old age but like I said, it was only a special treat when he got them. I think it was more the sugar than the chocolate that he liked. Dogs really like sugar just the same as chickens like sweet veggies and fruits.

I even give the old fashioned oats starting at a few days old along with boiled eggs. Take the oats and put them in a coffee bean/herb grinder. As the chickies get bigger, you can decrease to a more rough chop and then move to a crimped oat from the feed store. My flock gets whole oats and wheat (soaked and fermented overnight) for the majority of their diet. They also get gamebird crumbles and anything interesting from the garden. Winter squash (raw) is a favorite and lasts a little longer.
