Speckled Susex with swollen and spongy chest. Acting sick.

The important thing to do is clear out that crop so nutrition can get through. I'd hold off on vitamins till you are reasonably sure food is being processed, though you can use the liquid baby vitamins without iron and drop them right into her beak. I've cleared up sour crop on a couple, lost a couple to it, lost a couple to complete crop stasis where it just quit entirely and refused to start back up, even after surgically cleaning out the crop. I sure wish you luck with it-will be pulling for her!

Good luck with your girl. I hope all turns out well for you.
I am new to chickens & keep reading all of this stuff. UGH! Education is a good thing, so I read what I can. My chickens are 3 months now & doing well.

Her chest seems to be a little bigger, but she's fiesty. We have cats inside also and she fluffs out her feathers and is very aware of everything around her. She is having bm and drinking plenty of water. We did not give her any more vitamins, just the vinegar in water. Not sure if she'll pull through, but she is a fighter. Will keep you updated! Again, Thanks!

Massage her crop several times a day; just don't push up on it and make her possibly choke on something. I just found my 5 yr old RIR/Buff Orp hen with a crop issue this morning and put her in the hospital cage with water laced with 1/4 tsp of acidified copper sulfate. She'd obviously been guzzling water and was overflowing, literally; gagged and almost choked when she came out of the coop and down the ramp so we separated her immediately. She has been sitting in the back straw all day long with no food, so tomorrow, will see what we need to do for her. Guess we're going through it together. I just hate these crop issues.

How is your chicken doing today? Our chicken seems to be doing better. Her chest is still swollen, but seems to be going down. It is bigger than a golf ball, but smaller than a baseball. Few days ago it was about the size of a softball. She doesn't seem to like the yogurt (only kind I could find was vanilla) and she did eat 1 tbsp off scrambled eggs day before yesterday. Still drinking plenty of water and about 6-7 bm a day. She is still active. I'm fixing her an egg now and hoping she'll eat it. Should I give her any vitamins yet? Or still wait? And I'm not liking these crop issues either!

Guess we can all go through this together!

My girl was getting better but her sour crop came back. I was able to massage her crop for a while this morning (she seems to like it) and again on my lunch break. She's been without food for 24hrs and I've been giving her drops of acv water. My girl was much more lively today than yesterday, so thats good. I'm hoping to get her through this but I'm tol;d that it does take time. My girl doesn't like yogurt either so instead I used probiotics in capsule form and broke them open mixing them into apple sauce or really mushy oatmeal. Just a thought.

Good luck with your girl!

My hen seems okay. She even started laying again after a six month break! Not sure what the deal was with her crop, but guess we caught it at the very beginning.

As far as yogurt, best not to feed flavored at all-you do not want sugar in her crop right now. I wouldn't feed vanilla or anything with sugar. You can give her vitamins, but once, then skip till her crop is reduced and working right again. Hope yours pulls through.

I just want to thank you for saving my chicken! Her crop is smaller than a golf ball and she is much more active now. She is eating plain mushy oatmeal and drinking more now. She is chirping at me when I go in there. So thank you very much!
