Speckled Sussex as meat bird?

I will let you know how it is. I have one in the crock pot now that we butchered this morning. It was full grown but a little small looking to me. It was our first time butchering today we had to do a roo and decided to do this hen too.

Here's a picture of a full grown Spec Sussex.

They are gorgeous! I have just a pair. The roo is BIG. I don't have him for meat. Was given those two eggs as extras with 1 1/2 dozen Bantam eggs I ordered last year and enjoy these two more than all the rest. Calm, docile and follow me around like a puppy dog. I think I'll weigh him and that will be no problem, he is always standing by me.

We actually do eat our bantams when we have to kill them. Yep, it take a while before we actually have a meal.

mkeawsh - I'm originally from Union. You probably know my aunt & uncle who live in Beaufort. Paula raises goats and chickens too.

Off topic, but I love that garden fortress you have in the pictures.

I assume the high fences are to keep out deer? I have an issue with that, too. I'd love to hear more about the construction of it, perhaps in another thread?

We have only lived here for six years and LOOOOOVE it. Grew up in Shrewsbury and could not wait to get out of the St. Louis suburb. Sorry, I don't know your aunt and uncle, but would like to just because of what we have in common.

Could not have any of this where we did live. Our little hobby farm is now our kids - all our human ones are grown and gone enjoying their lives, as it should be.

I have an insatiable curiosity about places and maps, so I looked up Beaufort MO - US 50 goes through there! I'm about 1 mile south of US 50 - and only 1850 miles west of you!
