I'd like to hear stories of living with ss; their temperament, laying ability, etc. I'm interested in personal experiences you guys/gals have had with them, including pics of crosses with other breeds. Oh, heck, any pictures would be great! I just got 3 chicks today and am looking for ward to watching them grow and lay.

Thanks!

They are great birds. Mine are very friendly and always underfoot when I'm in their pen.
You want pictures?....I got pictures for you!

Cool, another Kansas girl!
Beautiful birds, Katy. Can I ask where you get them from? Do they go broody much? Lay through the winter?

Mine are always underfoot. Very friendly. One I have nicknamed Miss Piggy because she is the first to come for scratch at bedtime and she is always running up to see if I have anything tasty for her.

I have two hens that are wonderful! They are not only very attractive birds but very friendly as well and will even follow me around or even into the house if I let them. Unfortunately my roo was killed by the neighbors dog a while back.

Sorry to hear you lost your rooster. Will you look to replace him? I'm thinking of getting a few hens of this breed....they really have caught my eye. I think they would fit in beautifully with my Partridge Chants.

I've been researching speckled sussex for a while now and have decided to get a few, plus my Dad is wanting some too. We probably want 20-25 between the 2 of us. Does anyone know where I can get some naturally raised? The hatcheries I've talked to all medicate/vaccinate the parents and I'm looking for something with a better history. Help! Jason
