Speckled Sussex owners please

I have one pair from Ideal that are one of my favorites. Well, the Rooster is definitely my boy. Both are beautiful although being hatchery stock do not have an even speckled pattern. I love their temperment a whole lot. The rooster begs for treats and loves to be given any type of attention. I can trust him around my three kids also and that is a plus. He even gets after our Orpington rooster who likes to chase my son. LOL My son now just runs to "Morning" our SS Roo to save him.

I also have a dozen SS eggs in the bator right now! Can't wait for more

Mine are also very friendly, calm birds. One lays beautiful large terra-cotta colored eggs. The other lays a barely medium very pale tinted egg. They are hatchery stock, so that probably explains the lack of consistency. But they are great birds.

Are the eggs in your avatar from the SS? (the dark terra cotta and smallish tinted one?)

I have 6 hens. they are almost 2 years old now. We got them from a local farmer, they are not hatchery birds. They go broody every year. In fact one of them is sitting on 6 golden poliish eggs right now. She is athe only broody you can actually handle without loosing a hand. All 6 lay very well. They have quiet personalities and are among my favorites.

Mine are hatchery grade and pretty splashy, they are waaaayyyy calmer than the previous batch of sex links, pretty quiet and easy to plese, thye are just starting to lay, 3 out of 20. I have them split in 2 groups and they dont seem very flighty either......so far I am happy with them.

The only thing I'm disappointed in with my SS girl is her egg size, and she's fully mature, almost two years old. She hatched from an extra large egg, but lays only a small to medium. Other than that, she's a sweetie, but a BIG eater. Jumps into people's cars when they visit on her neverending quest for food. She's a very round girl on short legs with a voice like Olive Oyl.

Enjoyed reading everyone's comments on their SS. I'm starting 12 eggs from an Eggbider today. Hope to have a decent hatch. From the sounds of things, I'll enjoy the breed.
