Rehoming two Speckled Sussex chickens age 1yr 2mo, a rooster named Truffles & a hen named Hazel.
Truffles was supposed to be a pullet and I already own another rooster. I had to split my flock to accommodate both boys, but each having only 9 hens isn't enough. I'm choosing to rehome the SS rather than the Crevecoeur because I plan on breeding my Crevecoeurs. Hazel is very highly attached to Truffles. She follows him everywhere. So I would like her to go with him. She lays daily., eggs very likely fertilized.
I'd love for him to go to a home where he won't end up culled or as someone's stew. He doesn't have the worst temperament. My family can go into the yard with him and he ignores them. The dogs run free and watch over the flock while they free range. He doesn't mind the dogs. He prefers to avoid everyone except his ladies. Alerts them to birds overhead and roaming cats. Protective. Tolerates minimal handling. I would love to keep him, but I don't have space for more hens sadly. Or else I'd happily double my numbers! haha Obviously I understand he could end up culled but would love if someone with a large flock could give him a chance. He went through a slight bullying stage along with Hazel (I'm sure you'll see in my post history). That has calmed down now. Seems it happened when Hazel assumed head hen role. I do think most issues are due to a lack of hens for him along with some of the older hens refusing to accept him.
