Speckled Sussex Roo - Opinions *PICS*

Sure is! Nice to know of someone who is close. I was wondering if u knew of any poultry shows around here? Also I really like your rooster. I have two speckeled sussex hens that are with my partridge cochins. they are very pretty but one has to much white on it. I have cochins, polish , and rirs. thanks

I sure don't know of any shows around here. We exhibit a bunch of other animals, but it wouldn't be in or around anything like a chicken show. Yes, my speckled sussex hen has a lot of white also. I will look more into this breed when I have my runs and coops finished. Got to do one thing at a time! LOL

Yes I know exactly what you are talking about. I had to get rid of some bc I did not have enough room. I have a trio of partridge cochins. do you know where I could find a guide line to see how close my cochins are to the standard of perfection and see what is wrong with them compared to that. i was looking but i could not find anything.

He has alot of red on him.

I only have an older pic of my roo - when he was a teenager. Let me see if I can dig it out.

chickens112 I think the standard of perfection is the only print you can find with the info you need. I maybe wrong since I am no expert. I would say post some pictures and maybe a cochin breeder can give you some help. If they are hatchery birds like this roo of mine you are not going to be too close to the standard from what I have learned. I bet they are pretty. I love the feather legs personally. We have silkies with them that are adorable.

Wildsky- I know he is somewhat red compared to the pics I have seen. I also know his spotting isn't as noticeable in the pics as his feather tips are not nearly as covered as your bird. He does have the tips. My speckled sussex hen is very very dark, but she has a lot more white. I maybe able to breed them and get something in between. At least that is what I am thinking. I just really love this roos personality. As with anything I have bred sometimes a good personality means more than perfection. In my area there are more people interested in chickens for food than show - and with three children a nice roo is high on my list of importance. What do you think of his shape? That was my main question. I think he seems much heavier than the pics on feathersite, but then maybe he is just fat!
